Position Summary :
The  Certified Ophthalmic Medical Technologist (COMT)  plays a key role in delivering advanced diagnostic, technical, and patient care services in a high-end oculofacial plastic surgery practice. This position supports both the functional and aesthetic aspects of care, including assisting with ophthalmic evaluations, facial reconstructive procedures, and cosmetic treatments. The ideal candidate will be a highly skilled, detail-oriented professional who thrives in a collaborative, patient-focused environment.
Key Responsibilities :
Ophthalmic & Diagnostic Duties
Conduct comprehensive ophthalmic testing including visual acuity, refraction, tonometry, visual fields, and OCT imagingPerform advanced diagnostic testing such as external eye photography, slit-lamp evaluations, and motility assessmentsDocument clinical findings in EHR (preferably ModMed or similar)Assist in preoperative assessments for eyelid surgery (e.g., ptosis, blepharoplasty) and orbital proceduresMonitor and assist in managing patients with conditions like thyroid eye disease, eyelid malpositions, tearing disorders, dry eyes, etc.Surgical & Clinical Assistance
Prepare patients and surgical areas for in-office procedures and minor surgeriesAssist during surgical procedures such as blepharoplasty, lesion removal, or reconstructive repairPerform post-op checks, suture removal, and wound careProvide pre- and post-operative instructions and patient educationEnsure instruments and equipment are cleaned, sterilized, and maintainedAdministrative Support
Document clinical visits accurately and thoroughlyCoordinate diagnostic testing and referrals with outside providers as neededMaintain surgical logs and support surgical scheduling and planningParticipate in quality assurance initiatives and compliance with OSHA and HIPAAQualifications :
Current COMT certification through JCAHPO requiredMinimum of 2–3 years of experience in ophthalmology, preferably within an oculoplastics or facial aesthetics settingProficiency in diagnostic equipment and imaging systems (e.g., OCT, VF, topography)Experience with EHR systems; familiarity with ModMed a plusStrong interpersonal and communication skills; ability to work with patients undergoing cosmetic and reconstructive proceduresProfessional, compassionate, and discreet with a strong focus on patient carePreferred Skills & Experience :
Familiarity with cosmetic services (Botox, fillers, lasers) and aesthetic terminologyKnowledge of facial anatomy and common oculofacial conditionsExperience assisting in outpatient surgical centers or OR settingTattoos must be covered, no face piercings or colored hair - must look professionalWe have a new assignment for Allied - Ophthalmology in Bellevue, WA and are interviewing ASAP.
