This position will be filled as a Systems Engineer I ($70,276.50 - $108,928.58) or a Systems Engineer II ($77,479.80 - $120,093.69) depending on qualifications. The Systems Engineer I / II will work on one or more projects simultaneously to support multiple Communities of Interest (COI).Selected candidate will work closely with the team, other IT teams and COI members to :

The Systems Engineer I job duties include but are not limited to :

Data Management : Maintain and support data analytics platforms, integrate data sources, and work primarily with SQL Server databases including unstructured data.
Data Analysis : Translate business needs into technical specifications, design and develop data visualization reports and dashboards, perform data analysis to troubleshoot data-related issues and write basic queries.
Data Warehousing : Participate in data warehouse development, assist in build ETL processes, data models and data integration processes, perform regression, and system testing.
Technical Documentation : Develop and update technical documentation and communicate regularly with technical, applications, and operational staff to ensure database integrity, security, and optimized performance.
Data Quality : Identify, communicate, and resolve data quality and data reconciliation issues.
Collaboration : Work closely with frontend and backend engineers, product managers, analysts, and all business units and engineering teams.

The Systems Engineer II job duties include but are not limited to :

Data Management : Maintain and support data analytics platforms, integrate complex data sources, and work with SQL Server and other databases including unstructured data.

Data Analysis : Translate business needs into technical specifications, design and develop complex data visualization reports and dashboards, perform data analysis to troubleshoot data-related issues, write complex queries and perform query optimization.

Data Warehousing : Design and develop data warehouses, build ETL processes, data models and data integration processes, perform regression, and system testing.

Technical Documentation : Develop and update technical documentation and communicate regularly with technical, applications, and operational staff to ensure database integrity, security, and optimized performance.

Data Quality : Identify, communicate, and resolve data quality and data reconciliation issues.Design and develop data quality processes.

Collaboration : Work closely with frontend and backend engineers, product managers, analysts, and all business units and engineering teams. Research and develop governance, strategy for long-term data platform architecture to support required data infrastructure needs.

Minimum Requirements :

Systems Engineer I Minimums : Requires a Bachelors Degree in an Information Technology related field plus two (2) years of professional IT experience; OR any combination of education (above the high school level) and / or professional progressive IT experience equivalent to six (6) years in fields utilizing the knowledge, skills and abilities in technology systems, systems functions and systems capabilities; and associated with such positions as Systems Engineer, Network Engineer, Database Administrator or Programmer Analyst. May be required to have a current and valid drivers license.

Systems Engineer II Minimums : Requires a Bachelor’s Degree in an Information Technology related field plus four (4) years of professional IT experience; OR any combination of education (above the high school level) and / or professional progressive IT experience equivalent to eight (8) years in fields utilizing the knowledge, skills and abilities in technology systems, systems functions and systems capabilities; and associated with such positions as Systems Engineer, Network Engineer, Database Administrator or Programmer Analyst.

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS : All employees may be expected to work hours in excess of their normally scheduled hours in response to short-term department needs and / or City-wide emergencies. Must be available to work evenings, weekends, holidays, and overtime when required to meet operational needs. Position may require two or more Professional Industry Certifications specific to the work to be performed and maintain currency of those, or successor, certifications; such required certifications will be listed in the requisition that announces the vacancy.

Preferences :

4 year degree preferably in Computer Science, Mathematics or Electrical Engineering.

Experience in Power BI visualization development and support, SSRS, SSMS.

Experience working with Cloud services infrastructure, primarily Azure, Amazon Web Services (AWS), and Google Cloud Platform (GCP).

Experience performing root cause analysis on internal and external data and processes to answer specific business questions and identify opportunities for improvement.

Strong programming background with experience in SQL scripts, Python, .NET Core, APIs (JSON and XML).

Broad experience with database management systems (SQL Server, Oracle, MySQL, PostgreSQL)), OLAP (online analytical processing) and ETL (Extract, transform, load) frameworks.

Background in data warehouse design (e.g. dimensional modeling) and data mining.

Experience building and optimizing data pipelines, data integration processes.

Analytical mind with a problem-solving aptitude.

Understanding of Agile Scrum and Project Management methodologies.
