The University of Nevada, Reno is accepting applications for a Grants & Projects Analyst 2 to join the College of Engineering. This position plays a vital role in supporting faculty and staff throughout the grant proposal process. Responsibilities include managing complex grant functions, ensuring compliance with university and sponsor regulations, and maintaining detailed informational and financial records. The analyst oversees proposal intake and faculty communications and leads the submission of complete proposal packages through various electronic systems.
Additional duties include reviewing funding opportunities, developing and checking proposal budgets, and assisting with sponsor-specific documentation. The analyst serves as the primary budget contact during planning meetings and works closely with Sponsored Projects and faculty to ensure smooth coordination.
This role also supports training and outreach by providing guidance to principal investigators, staff, and students on sponsor requirements and grant procedures. The analyst helps streamline proposal development through improved communication strategies and collaborates with college communications staff to promote faculty research. They may also present research data and outcomes to internal and external audiences. This position provides backup support for post-award activities such as processing project extensions, budget modifications, and reviewing monthly reports. Other research-related duties may be assigned as needed.
Required qualifications include a bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in public or business administration, accounting, finance or related field and two years of professional grants experience which includes at least two of the following areas : writing grant applications; determining grant / subgrant program eligibility; researching, writing and implementing grant program plans; managing fiscal aspects of grants / subgrants; providing technical assistance to grant / subgrant recipients; and / or monitoring and ensuring grant / subgrant recipient compliance; OR graduation from high school or equivalent education and four years of professional grants experience which includes at least two of the areas as described above; OR one year of experience as a Grants & Projects Analyst I in Nevada State service; OR an equivalent combination of education and experience as described above.
Preferred qualifications include knowledge of federal grant regulations (e.g., Uniform Guidance, NIH, NSF), post-award processes, and university research administration practices. Experience in pre- and post-award grant management, including budget development, financial reporting, and compliance monitoring. Proficiency with ERP systems (e.g., Workday, PeopleSoft, Banner), Microsoft Excel (pivot tables, vlookups), and data visualization tools like Power BI or Tableau. Strong analytical, communication, and organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities and collaborate across teams.
