About The Position

Job Title : Registered Nurse

Certifications : BLS, NRP

Must-Have :

BLS - Basic Life Support Certification (Healthcare Provider / Professional Rescuer)

NRP - Neonatal Resuscitation Program Certification

FLU vaccination required, no exemptions

Description :

The NICU is a Level IV, 70-bed unit.

The typical nurse-to-patient ratio is 1 : 2 or 1 : 3.

Nurses may float to a PICU with a similar patient population.

The patient delivery system follows a primary nursing model.

Charting is done using computerized charting in Cerner.

Top diagnoses and procedures include :

• Prematurity (22-36 weeks)
• Hypoxic Ischemic Encephalopathy (HIE)
• Neurological disorders (seizures, hydrocephalus, neural tube defects, etc.)
• Cardiac lesions (PDA, Tetralogy of Fallot, coarctation, truncus arteriosus, etc.)
• Respiratory issues (RDS, TTN, BPD, etc.)
• Renal issues (hydronephrosis, etc.)
• GI issues (GI reflux, NEC, Hirschsprung's disease, etc.)
• Tracheostomies
• GI ostomies
• Anomalies (tracheoesophageal fistula, congenital diaphragmatic hernia, etc.)

Special procedures performed on the unit include occasional bedside surgeries, such as PDA ligation, chest tube insertion, and Penrose drain placement.
