Job Description
We are seeking a highly motivated Assembly Technician to join our team of skilled engineers and machinists in building advanced aerospace systems. In this role, you will support the precise assembly of complex aerospace structures, working from detailed engineering drawings and approved procedures to ensure the highest quality standards. You will be responsible for coordinating parts procurement, performing hands-on assembly, conducting quality checks, and thoroughly documenting every stage of the build process. The ideal candidate will be meticulous, a self-starter, bring strong attention to detail, excellent organizational skills, and a passion for contributing to cutting-edge vehicle development.
Key Responsibilities :
- Use the Bill of Materials (BOM) from the Mechanical Engineering team to track build progress for each vehicle and provide weekly status updates to the Chief Engineer
- Manage the procurement of commercial off-the-shelf (COTS) components listed in the BOM by preparing and submitting purchase orders
- Receive inspected parts from manufacturing, perform additional quality checks to verify specifications and report any discrepancies or non-conformities to the Chief Engineer
- Organize, label, and store components and assemblies in secure storage systems, updating the BOM with storage locations
- Prepare assembly Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) from engineering drawings and obtain Chief Engineer approval before assembly work
- Conduct dry fit test assemblies to verify part alignment and fit, reinspecting parts as applicable
- Assemble vehicles with precision and attention to quality, documenting the process with photographs and notes for weekly progress reports
- Perform post-assembly in-depth checks, notifying the Chief Engineer of milestone inspection
- Coordinate with the painting facility to prepare vehicles for flight, which may include sanding, smoothing, and final cosmetic finishes
- Secure vehicles for transportation to flight locations
- Perform post-flight documentation of the vehicles condition, complete deconstruction, and submit a Post-Flight Investigation (PFI) report to the Chief Engineer
- Decommission vehicles by discarding damaged parts and organizing reusable parts for future projects
Required Qualifications :
Associate or bachelors degree in mechanical engineering technology (MET) or equivalent two-year technical degreeMinimum of 2-5+ years of hands-on assembly experience in an engineering or manufacturing environmentMust be organized, detail-oriented, and meticulous, with strong documentation and process control skillsProficiency in reading and interpreting engineering drawings and assembly instructionsKnowledge of manufacturing safety standards and quality control processesStrong problem-solving skills and ability to troubleshoot assembly or fit issuesEffective written and verbal communication skills for documenting and reporting workAbility to work both independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced environmentExperience with process control and inventory management, including tracking, organizing, and documenting partsComfortable with using basic hand and power tools for mechanical assemblyCapable of lifting 50+ lbs and performing physical assembly tasks as requiredPreferred Qualifications :
Proficiency with CAD software such as SolidWorksBackground in working with structural adhesives and composite materialsSkilled in the use of inspection equipment and measurement toolsFamiliarity with process documentation, SOP creation, and work inspection developmentKnowledge of aerospace assembly and quality standardsUnderstanding of process control and inventory tracking systemsBenefits :
