JOB SUMMARY
The Nurse Unit Manager will oversee the daily operations of the nursing unit within the skilled nursing facility. This role is responsible for ensuring that high-quality patient care is delivered efficiently and effectively, while managing a team of nursing staff. The Nurse Manager will collaborate with other healthcare professionals to develop and implement patient care plans, ensure regulatory compliance based on current federal, state, and local standards, guidelines and regulations that govern skilled nursing facilities.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
- Lead, manage, and mentor nursing staff, including registered nurses (RNs), licensed practical nurses (LPNs), and certified nursing assistants (CNAs), and medication aide certified (MAC).
- Conduct regular performance evaluations, provide feedback, and implement professional development programs.
- Ensure proper staffing levels to meet patient care needs, overseeing scheduling, recruitment, and retention efforts.
- Conduct corrective disciplinary actions with Director of Nursing.
- Monitor and evaluate patient care practices, ensuring compliance with care plans and clinical guidelines.
- Assist in developing individualized care plans for residents and monitor progress to meet their health needs.
- Collaborate with physicians, therapists, and other healthcare professionals to assess and adjust care, as necessary.
- Provide direct nursing care, as necessary.
- Ensure adherence to all local, state, and federal regulations governing nursing and healthcare operations within the facility.
- Maintain knowledge of current healthcare standards and best practices.
- Adhere, review, implement, and revise policies and procedures for the facility based on industry best practices and regulatory guidance.
- Prepare for and assist with inspections by regulatory agencies (e.g., Department of Health, CMS) as directed by Administrator and / or Director of Nursing
- Oversee infection control programs, safety protocols, and preventative measures to maintain a safe and healthy environment for residents and staff.
- Track and analyze nursing outcomes, patient satisfaction, and incident reports to improve care quality and performance.
- Implement and monitor quality improvement initiatives to enhance patient care and operational efficiency.
- Serve as a liaison between nursing staff, administration, residents, and family members to ensure clear communication and resolution of concerns.
- Coordinate with other department heads to ensure integrated care for residents.
- Address and resolve complaints from residents or family members in a timely and empathetic manner.
- Assist in the development and management of the nursing department’s budget, ensuring efficient allocation of resources.
- Ensure appropriate inventory and ordering of medical supplies and equipment for nursing staff.
- Ensure nursing staff are trained in updated procedures, new equipment, and current medical practices.
- Provide ongoing education to nursing staff on clinical skills, regulatory compliance, and quality improvement practices.
JOB QUALIFICATIONS
Education
Must possess, as a minimum, a nursing degree from an accredited college or university, or be a graduate of an approved nursing program; Registered Nurse preferred.Licensure
