Lead Maintenance Worker
Leads a maintenance crew and participates in the performance of skilled maintenance and repair activities in assigned division(s), ensuring compliance with applicable regulations and specifications, as well as responding to hazards.
This is a lead level maintenance and operations classification in the maintenance and operations job family that requires advanced technical knowledge and skill in the technical / functional aspects of assigned role. Work involves planning and coordinating work assignments and the modification of established guidelines and the initiation of new approaches.
Essential duties include :
- Leading staff; scheduling staff and managing time off, providing communication from upper-level supervisor and management to work unit; directing, delegating and monitoring workflow, equipment and materials; inspecting work and developing staff for efficient operation; providing input into key personnel actions including performance evaluations, hiring, discipline, promotion, demotion.
- Operating a variety of heavy equipment to haul, transport, load and / or unload materials and equipment for assigned projects.
- Removing weeds and vegetation, which may include herbicide and pesticide application.
- Assessing and identifying repairs to streets, curbs, gutters, sidewalks, and alleys; recommending repairs.
- Responding to roadway situations involving accidents, debris, or spills; placing barricades to identify safety hazards.
- Adhering to established safety policies, procedures, laws, and rules in the use of all equipment and repairs.
- Preparing reports, performance logs and technical documentation.
- Performing general cleaning, inspection, and maintenance of vehicles, equipment, and tools to ensure efficiency and safety.
- Performing related work as assigned.
Position specific duties include :
Performing scheduled maintenance, repair and service work of streets, rights-of-ways, alleys, medians, concrete features, stormwater drainage systems, and retention basins.Repairing and replacing concrete sidewalks, driveways, curbs and gutters.Removing debris and other safety hazards from streets, curbs, storm drains, alleys and adjacent public areas.Knowledge required :
Methods, materials, procedures, and standard practices of maintenance in assigned area of responsibility;Methods, materials, procedures and standard practices of concrete and asphalt repair, removal and replacement;Equipment and tool operation and maintenance practices;Traffic laws and rules involved in vehicle and equipment operation;Customer service principles;Occupational hazards and safe work practices;Applicable equipment, safety practices and tools;Occupational hazards and safe work practices.Skills required :

Education and experience : High School Diploma or GED and 4 years of related experience; or an equivalent combination of directly related education and experience.
