Job Title : Human Resources Generalist
Department : Human Resources
Supervisor : Director of Human Resources
Location : Washington, DC, on-site
Classification : Exempt / Salaried
Synopsis : The Human Resources (HR) Generalist supports the day-to-day operations of the Human Resources Department by performing a variety of professional-level HR functions. Reporting to the Director of Human Resources, this position plays a key role in managing and improving processes across recruitment, training, performance management, and HR workflows, while contributing to special projects that advance organizational goals. The ideal candidate is fully bilingual and proficient in speaking, reading, and writing in both English and Spanish, and able to effectively communicate with staff and stakeholders across all levels. The HR Generalist ensures that all HR practices align with the mission, vision, and values of the organization and comply with applicable HRSA, FQHC, and employment regulations.
Qualifications : Required Education and Experience :
- Education : Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, Organizational Development, or related field.
- Experience : Minimum 3–5 years of progressive HR experience, preferably in a healthcare or nonprofit environment.
- Language : Fully bilingual (English and Spanish), with demonstrated proficiency in speaking, reading, and writing in both languages.
Preferred Education and Experience :
PHR / SPHR or SHRM-CP preferred (or ability to obtain within 12 months).Knowledge of HR laws and regulations (FLSA, FMLA, EEO, ADA, Title VII, OSHA, etc.HRIS systems, applicant tracking systems (ATS), and Microsoft Office Suite.Data tracking, reporting, and documentation accuracy.Communication (written and verbal), presentation, and facilitation.Knowledge of Federal and State employment laws, Investigation Skills, HR technical knowledge in EEO, AA, FMLA, ADA, unemployment, and worker’s compensation.Duties and Responsibilities :
Recruitment and Selection
Manage full-cycle recruitment for clinical, administrative, and program positions (from sourcing to final selection of candidates).Develop and post job announcements across multiple platforms to attract diverse and qualified talent.Screen resumes, conduct initial interviews, and coordinate hiring panels.Ensure timely communication with applicants and hiring managers.Oversee background checks, reference verifications, and credentialing coordination for new hires.Training and Development
Identify training needs in collaboration with supervisors and management.Assist in the delivering of professional development and compliance training (e.g., HIPAA, OSHA, Cultural Competency,).Track and document employee training activities for compliance reporting.Support the rollout of learning management systems and training initiatives.Review of HR Processes and Workflows
Review HR processes to improve efficiency, equity, and compliance.Document and map existing HR workflows (recruitment, onboarding, evaluations, etc.).Identify opportunities to automate or simplify manual tasks.Develop and update HR policies and standard operating procedures (SOPs).Participate in audits and data reviews to ensure accuracy of HR records.Performance Management
Support the annual performance review process and ensure timely completion.Track and document employee evaluations, corrective actions, and recognitions.Analyze performance data to identify training and engagement needs.Contribute to the design of performance improvement initiatives and recognition programs.Special HR Projects
Participate in cross-departmental initiatives and strategic HR projects such as employee engagement, retention programs, HRIS upgrades, and DEI initiatives.
Contribute to HR reports and workforce analyses.
Support internal communication that reinforce organizational culture.
Coordinate special activities, including personnel retreats, staff awards and annual holiday party.
Other Activities :
Assist in other HR Activities, as needed.
Back-up for other team members.
