Position Summary :
As a Linux Engineering Manager at our corporate headquarters, you will be a key player in ensuring a stable and secure computing environment, specifically for our Linux-based systems. This role isn't just about maintenance; it's about proactively supporting and advancing the organization's technological needs through expert management of Linux infrastructure. You'll use your deep expertise to resolve complex technical issues, manage critical systems, and deploy new technologies that empower our teams. This position requires a blend of hands-on technical skills, strategic problem-solving, and a commitment to exceptional service.
Responsibilities :
- Advanced Troubleshooting and Support : Serve as the initial escalation point for all Linux-related technical issues, providing expert-level support for hardware, software, and network infrastructure. You'll be the go-to person for resolving complex problems that encompass many aspects of Linux systems.
- System Management and Maintenance : Proactively maintain, configure, and optimize critical corporate systems, including desktops, laptops, and virtualized environments running Linux operating systems such as UBUNTU, CentOS, and ROCKY9. You will manage user accounts, access permissions, and software licensing to ensure security and compliance.
- Technology Deployment and Integration : Lead the deployment of new hardware and software solutions across the organization, with a focus on Linux systems. This includes planning, execution, and documenting new technology rollouts from procurement to user training.
- Strategic Project Participation : Collaborate with cross-functional teams on key IT initiatives and projects, providing your input and execution for upgrades, migrations, and the implementation of new Linux technologies that drive business efficiency
- Documentation and Knowledge Sharing : Develop and maintain comprehensive documentation for common issues, system configurations, and best practices for Linux environments. You'll train junior staff and end-users, fostering a culture of technical self-sufficiency.
- Vendor and Asset Management : Assist with managing IT assets and coordinating with external vendors for hardware and software procurement, repairs, and support, ensuring the organization gets the best value and service for Linux-based systems.
Required Skills
Linux Expertise : Proven experience working on local, remote, and virtualized Linux environments, including UBUNTU, CentOS, RedHat and ROCKY9.System Administration : Expertise in the installation, repair, and updating of Linux operating systems. The co-existence and authentication with Microsoft Azure, and Microsoft Active Directory.Network Connectivity : Strong understanding of basic network connectivity, including patch cable replacement / repair, verifying data port activation, cross-connect ports, and wireless connections.Application and Desktop Support : Experience with application support (installing, repairing, and updating), as well as desktop and laptop setup, deployment, and repair within Linux environments.Remote Support : Proficient in providing remote user support using tools like Teams and other Remote Management Software.Security Management : Experience with RSA / MFA / DUP hardware and software token account assignment / activationHighly Desired Skills
Multi-Factor setup / support for Linux, Crowdstrike usage for cyber security.Zoho product familiarity, e.g. Endpoint Central – endpoint encryption, malware and AV management and AD Audit Plus, account management.Previous support experience with Epicor Manage2000, Collect 2000, Aegis Fusion\Factory Logix, Filebound and a plus.Qualifications and Requirements
Proven Experience : A minimum of 6 years of experience in a Linux support, system administration, or similar role within a medium-to-large corporate environment.Technical Expertise : Strong, demonstrable knowledge of Linux operating systems, including Active Directory integration, enterprise networking concepts (DNS, DHCP, TCP / IP), and remote management tools.Problem-Solving Skills : Exceptional analytical and problem-solving abilities with a history of resolving complex, multi-layered technical challenges under pressure.Communication : Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to translate technical jargon into clear, concise instructions for non-technical staff.Certifications : Relevant industry certifications such as CompTIA Linux+ or Red Hat Certified System Administrator (RHCSA) will be a significant plus.Autonomy and Collaboration : The ability to work both independently with minimal supervision and collaboratively within a team-oriented environmentComtech Telecommunications Corp. is an Equal Opportunity Employer.
