Position Summary
The MOT Foreman is responsible for overseeing all aspects of traffic control operations on construction and utility job sites to ensure the safety of the public, work crews, and equipment. This position leads a team in setting up, maintaining, and removing traffic control devices in accordance with project specifications, company policies, and federal, state, and local regulations. The MOT Foreman ensures that traffic control plans are executed correctly, efficiently, and safely while maintaining clear communication with field leadership, project managers, and inspectors.
Responsibilities
- Lead and supervise traffic control crews, ensuring all work is performed safely and according to plan.
- Oversee the daily setup, maintenance, and removal of traffic control devices, including signs, cones, barricades, arrow boards, and flagging operations.
- Ensure all traffic control operations comply with MUTCD (Manual on Uniform Traffic Control Devices) standards and applicable state / local requirements.
- Read and interpret traffic control plans, making adjustments in the field as necessary.
- Coordinate with project managers, field leadership, and law enforcement to ensure proper execution of lane closures, detours, and traffic shifts.
- Conduct daily safety meetings and ensure all crew members follow company safety policies and wear appropriate PPE.
- Inspect work zones throughout the day to ensure devices remain in place, functional, and compliant.
- Complete daily documentation, including work reports, incident logs, and lane closure records.
- Respond promptly to any incidents, emergencies, or changes in traffic conditions.
Qualifications
High school diploma or GED.Minimum of 2–4 years of experience in traffic control or roadway construction.At least 1 year of experience in a leadership or supervisory role.Current MOT (Maintenance of Traffic) or Traffic Control Supervisor certification (ATSSA or state equivalent).Valid driver’s license with a clean driving record.Knowledge of MUTCD standards, traffic control regulations, and safety requirements.Strong leadership, communication, and organizational skills.Preferred Qualifications
OSHA 10 or OSHA 30 certification.Experience leading traffic control operations on utility or infrastructure projects.Experience coordinating with DOT inspectors and law enforcement.Bilingual (English / Spanish) a plus.Physical Requirements
Must be able to stand, walk, and work outdoors for extended periods of time in varying weather conditions.Must be able to lift, carry, push, and pull up to 50 lbs. regularly.Ability to bend, stoop, climb, and reach as required to place and retrieve traffic control devices.Willingness to work nights, weekends, and overtime as required by project schedules.Why Join Benchmark Utility Services
