Major Duties and Responsibilities
Answers telephones; responds to inquiries from law enforcement agencies, the general public, and others; provides appropriate information including case numbers, case status, and court dates and times; forwards calls to appropriate personnel; takes messages.
Prepares Grand Jury subpoenas; receives files from attorneys; prepares subpoenas for the most important witnesses in the case.
Prepares indictments, accusations, and guilty pleas.
Prepares trial subpoenas; indicates witnesses and victims to be subpoenaed in computer record system; processes subpoenas to Sheriff's Office.
Performs other related duties as assigned.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
Knowledge of office administration practices and procedures such as letter writing and the operation of standard office equipment.
Knowledge of computer applications.
Knowledge of legal terminology and legal research principles.
Knowledge of the techniques of record keeping, report preparation, filing methods, and records management.
Skill in researching, compiling, and summarizing information.
Skill in oral and written communication.
Minimum Educational and Training Requirements
Knowledge and level of competency commonly associated with the completion of specialized training in the occupational field, in addition to basic skills typically associated with a high school education. Sufficient experience to understand the basic principles relevant to the major duties of the position, usually associated with the completion of an apprenticeship / internship or having had a similar position for one to two years.
Physical Requirements
The work is typically performed while sitting at a desk or table. The work is typically performed with the employee sitting, standing, walking, bending, crouching or stooping. The employee must occasionally lift light objects. Additionally, the following physical abilities are required :
