Job description

Maxwell Group / Senior Living Communities, based in Charlotte owns and manages luxury retirement communities along with other related senior living care entities in Connecticut, Florida, Georgia, Indiana, North Carolina & South Carolina. Now accepting applications for a VP of Facilities.

We're seeking a dynamic and experienced Vice President of Facilities to lead our senior housing operations with a focus on excellence, safety, and innovation. In this pivotal role, you will oversee the maintenance, safety, and overall functionality of our facilities, ensuring that residents enjoy a comfortable and enriching environment. The ideal candidate will possess a blend of strategic vision and hands-on experience, demonstrating a commitment to enhancing the quality of life for our residents through effective facility management. You will collaborate closely with senior leadership to implement sustainable practices, optimize resources, and drive initiatives that foster a sense of community and well-being. Ideal candidate has technical training in mechanics, electrical, plumbing, landscaping, or HVAC, experience in construction / renovations and housing / commercial refurbishment, and experience in a similar maintenance leadership position. Senior housing experience preferred. High level of hospitality and customer service required.

The position is located at the Home Office in Charlotte. Hybrid work schedule. 4-5 days of travel per week required, which could include some overnights and weekends.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS :

  • Oversee and participate in Company Training :  Both onboarding and situational
  • Will engage and work with the Regional Facilities Director and Facilities Mentor to ensure proper and ongoing training of all Facilities roles.
  • Solution oriented to resolve problems quickly.
  • Interact & effectively communicate with others.
  • Work alongside team members in the field to facilitate a timely and complete response for our members and team members to lower the cost and need of vendors.
  • Responsibilities will encompass plumbing, electrical, carpentry, painting, cleaning, minor HVAC, security, landscaping / irrigation or hauling.
  • Must be flexible and can travel throughout the Senior Living Communities portfolio, sometimes with very short notice.
  • Will be highly versed in proper preventative maintenance practices and able to train the SLC PM policies and practices.
  • Vacancy : Will sit the seat of communities wherein a DFS vacancy has occurred to ensure continuance of best practices, to re-engage with team members, to re-build trust, and / or keep the community operating to SLC’s high standards.
  • Ensures proper handling, storage, and maintenance of potentially dangerous chemicals and equipment; maintains proper documentation and MSDS logs as required by OSHA.
  • Participates in and attends all in-service training and education programs as scheduled.
  • Will be knowledgeable and write policies and procedures pertaining to all areas of facilities.
  • Will coach and guide community Facilities Directors with best practices, regulatory requirements, budgets and labor management.
  • Other duties as assigned.

    Physical Demands, Work Environment, and Expected Hours of Work : The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.

  • An individual in this position is often required to read, write, stand, walk, sit, use hands to finger, handle, or feel objects, tools, or controls, reach with hands and arms, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, talk and / or hear.
  • An individual in this position will be required to lift or carry weights up to 50 lbs and move objects of 100 pounds or more.
  • Ability to use hand tools, automatic / electrical machinery, carts, and dollies.
  • Must have a valid driver’s license and satisfactory driving record as specified by the Company and by the Company’s automobile insurance carrier.
  • Work outdoors and indoors during the workday.
  • Climb up to five flights of stairs.
  • Ability to climb extension ladder up to and above roof height.
  • Must be free of diseases that can be transmitted in the performance of job responsibilities during the stage of communicability unless the associate can be given duties that minimize the likelihood of transmission.
  • May be exposed to minimal to moderate noise and exposure to blood and / or body fluids. Also may experience traumatic situations including psychiatric and deceased residents.
  • TRAVEL : Local and out-of-state travel, including overnight stays, will be required, sometimes for several consecutive weeks, to complete assigned projects.

    EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS :

  • Four-year college degree preferred or 2-year degree with relevant work experience.
  • Technical training in mechanics, electrical, plumbing, landscaping, or HVAC desired.
  • Mechanical or maintenance experience required.
  • 5+ years’ experience in construction / renovations and housing / commercial refurbishment desired.
  • 5+ years’ experience in a similar facilities leadership position desired.
  • Supervisory experience required.
  • Senior housing experience preferred.
  • KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES REQUIRED :

  • Ability to read, write, speak and understand English fluently.
  • Ability to meet or exceed the company’s attendance and punctuality standards.
  • Ability to use miscellaneous software, office equipment and tools related to plumbing, electrical, carpentry, painting, cleaning, minor HVAC.
  • Ability to understand and follow directions as given.
  • Ability to work with minimal supervision.
  • Ability to conduct all business with a professional manner and with a high level of confidentiality.
