Summary

As an Emergency Medical Technician, you will function as a critical medical professional, providing immediate care to victims of accidents, sudden illnesses, and emergencies such as cardiac arrests or strokes. You will deliver both pre-hospital and intra-hospital advanced life support care from the time of initial contact until the patient is handed over to the receiving medical facility.

Key Responsibilities

• Represent the ambulance service during duty at public service functions and events, providing ambulance standby services as needed.
• Document detailed patient assessments and treatments using patient care charting software.
• Provide medical and therapeutic services to patients experiencing psychiatric, medical, or traumatic crises.
• Collaborate as a part of a two-member ambulance crew responding to emergency and non-emergency calls.
• Operate advanced life support equipment like bag valve mask resuscitators, external defibrillators, and electrocardiograms.
• Assess the nature and extent of injuries or illnesses to establish and prioritize medical procedures.
• Respond to dispatcher instructions and operate emergency vehicles to specified locations safely.
• Administer medications via injections, intravenous procedures, or orally under physician supervision.
• Communicate with medical personnel at treatment facilities to receive guidance on patient care.
• Clean and decontaminate the ambulance after treating patients with infectious conditions and report any infections to the proper authorities.

Physical Demands

This role requires lifting over 50 lbs, pushing / pulling up to 140 lbs, and carrying 80 lbs for short distances. Frequent standing, walking, squatting, kneeling, crawling, climbing, and reaching overhead are part of the job.
