Join to apply for the Director - Product & Technology, Technology Industry Group (TIG) - Private Equity role at Alvarez & Marsal

Alvarez & Marsal is a leading independent global professional services firm specializing in turnaround management, performance improvement, and corporate advisory services. The firm is expanding its Private Equity Performance Improvement (PEPI) - Technology Industry Group team. With more than 10,000 professionals across six continents, A&M draws on a strong operational heritage and a hands-on approach. The Technology Industry Group is a growing business targeting high growth in the next 2–4 years.

What will you be doing?

Our Technology Industry Group offering brings a structured and disciplined approach to create and capture value. We provide corporate and equity buyers with a broad continuum of knowledge and tools for performance management, mergers, acquisitions, carve-outs, joint ventures and alliances. The team works across the full spectrum of the deal and company lifecycle from pre-deal technology, operational and synergy reviews, through Day-1 planning, to post-deal implementations, and performance improvement. Our projects often include evaluation of, or initiatives related to product and technology functions across the deal and company lifecycle, which requires an understanding of the product roadmap and portfolio, architecture, and SDLC processes.

Engagement types and responsibilities include :

  • Lead or support work streams focused on the R&D and Product functions during technology performance improvement, growth strategy or M&A engagements
  • Evaluate product roadmaps, engineering processes, and innovation pipelines to determine alignment with business strategy
  • Assess proprietary platform and software architecture for readiness, scalability limitations, and security posture
  • Conduct system design interviews with R&D leadership, including CTOs, CPOs, CIOs, and engineering leadership to understand trade-offs and identify red flags in a company’s R&D or product strategy, security posture, or scalability
  • Engage during pre-acquisition diligence phase to evaluate product prioritization process, enterprise architecture, software development lifecycle processes, headcount and non-headcount investments and organizational structures
  • Assess cloud infrastructure and deployment models (e.g. AWS, Azure, GCP, hybrid), including cost / performance optimization opportunities
  • Complete Product Parity assessments and develop recommended product integration strategy for M&A activity for competitor companies
  • Day-1 and 100-day planning and execution - driving performance improvements across critical areas such as product roadmap, SDLC processes, cloud and on-prem strategy development, business intelligence and reporting integration, and customer and channel management. This includes tracking progress against Day 1 and Day 100 objectives and adjusting strategies or personnel as needed
  • Merger-integration and carve-out execution, managing critical path workstreams to ensure seamless separation or integration

How will you be supported?

We offer excellent opportunities for career advancement and leadership development. Our leadership team provides career growth, training, and exposure to international business assignments. You will build your skillset by providing valuable insight into how an entire business goes through the change process, while helping technology-focused PE and corporate clients outperform the market. You will broaden your technology experience across the TIG industry groups and have opportunities to progress as part of a fast-growing team.

Qualifications

  • 9–14+ years in roles such as Product Manager, Group Product Manager, Director of Product, or R&D Strategy / Operations Lead, preferably in mid to large software or semiconductor companies
  • Exposure to private equity sponsors, portfolio companies, or related transaction / merger integration is a bonus
  • Proven experience in building or evaluating product roadmaps, prioritizing features, and aligning engineering spend with strategic goals. Experience contributing to or leading R&D or product assessments
  • Strong understanding of cross-functional teamwork required to deliver high-quality features on time and within scope
  • Strong system design acumen, with experience leading and evaluating technical and product interviews
  • Hands-on knowledge of modern cloud architecture, including containerization, event-driven systems, streaming data pipelines, and distributed data stores
  • Ability to analyze R&D spend patterns (headcount, vendor costs, cloud spend, tooling, etc.) and link them to innovation or revenue outcomes
  • Familiarity with Agile SDLC, DevOps practices, and tooling (e.g., CI / CD pipelines, Infrastructure as Code, SAST / DAST)
  • Deep functional expertise in one or more of the following areas is a bonus : Product or Technical Program Management, CTO advisory, or strategic engineering leadership; R&D merger integration and carve-out including Business / IT transformation program / project management (e.g., ERP); Understanding of SaaS business models, including ARR growth levers, customer adoption metrics, and product-led growth strategies; Product strategy and performance improvement, including cost-reduction initiatives; Private Equity Advisory around Product and R&D functions
  • Comfortable engaging with senior R&D leadership and clearly articulating technical findings to executive and private equity stakeholders
  • Bachelor’s or master’s degree in Business, Engineering, or a related field; MBA preferred
  • Team-oriented, adaptable, curious, and quick learner
  • Advanced Excel and PowerPoint skills; excellent communication abilities
  • Willing to travel up to 25%
  • The base salary range is $150,000 - $225,000 annually, dependent on several variables including but not limited to education, experience, skills, and geography. In addition, A&M offers a discretionary bonus program which is based on a number of factors, including individual and firm performance. Please ask your recruiter for details.
