Trach care, chest tube management, and general medical surgical skills. Description : Seeking a Charge Nurse for a Medical Surgical Unit. The nurse will monitor patients on telemetry. Any medical diagnosis except primary cardiac can be seen on this unit. Common diagnoses include stroke, COPD, respiratory issues, GI bleed, renal failure, electrolyte imbalances, altered mental status, weakness, and non-operable fractures. The nurse will have the ability to manage a patient ratio of 1 : 4-5 during days and 1 : 5-6 during nights, which may vary based on patient acuity and support available. CNA support is provided with a ratio of 1 : 10 days and nights. Documentation will be carried out using the charting system, including Alaris and Pyxis. The nurse may float to any area with medical / telemetry patients as needed. The charge nurse will typically not have a patient assignment.
