CNC Setup Machinist — Multi‑Axis Mill / Lathe
Location : Kalispell, MT
Schedule : Monday – Friday, 8 : 00 AM to 5 : 00 PM
Pay Range : $20 – $30 per hour DOE
A Day in the Shop
Your day begins with a blueprint and a job traveler on your bench. You select the right workholding—hard jaws for repeatability, soft jaws for delicate features, or an angle plate for that tricky setup—then dial in speeds and feeds to match the material and geometry. You’re focused on producing a best-in-class surface finish, hitting cycle-time targets, and keeping setups lean. Simple jobs often go from zero to cutting in 15–40 minutes, especially if you’ve made the part before. Between runs, you bounce seamlessly between a manual mill and a manual lathe to fine-tune fixtures or touch up parts, keeping quality high and production on schedule.
Core Responsibilities
- Plan and execute efficient setups using hard jaws, soft jaws, angle plates, and other clamping strategies.
- Select machining strategies that achieve excellent surface finishes, quick cycle times, and minimal setups.
- Establish proper speeds and feeds aligned to the job and material.
- Interpret blueprints, job travelers, and part tolerances to drive decisions on tooling and sequencing.
- Operate both a manual mill and a manual lathe as needed to support production.
- Use micrometers, calipers, height gages, and go / no-go gages to verify dimensions and features.
- Hold tight tolerances and deliver on deadlines while maintaining consistent quality.
