AWS Cloud Operations Manager

Boston, MA (Onsite / Hybrid) |  Full-Time |  $160,000–$185,000 / year

Lead a mission-critical AWS infrastructure powering healthcare systems

A leading healthcare institution is seeking a seasoned AWS Cloud Operations Manager to oversee its enterprise-wide AWS infrastructure. This leadership role requires deep technical expertise, strategic vision, and strong team leadership to manage cloud operations that are HIPAA-compliant, secure, scalable, and high-performing.

You’ll play a key role in infrastructure optimization, automation, security compliance, and cloud cost control—while leading a team of cloud engineers and collaborating across IT and business functions.

Position Overview

The AWS Cloud Operations Manager is responsible for ensuring the performance, availability, and scalability of a complex cloud ecosystem supporting clinical and business systems. The ideal candidate brings at least 8 years of AWS cloud experience, a deep understanding of DevOps practices, and strong working knowledge of compliance in healthcare or regulated environments. This role will require onsite work in Boston, MA (02118) .

Key Responsibilities

Cloud Infrastructure & Operations

Oversee design, deployment, and monitoring of AWS services (EC2, S3, RDS, Lambda, etc.)

Maintain a high-availability, HIPAA-compliant, and scalable infrastructure

Lead cost optimization efforts using tools like AWS Cost Explorer and Trusted Advisor

Ensure proper use of reserved instances, spot instances, and autoscaling policies

Security & Compliance

Enforce AWS and industry-standard security best practices

Collaborate with internal security teams to ensure HIPAA and data privacy compliance

Conduct regular reviews of access policies and audit logs

DevOps & Automation

Drive Infrastructure as Code (IaC) initiatives with tools like CloudFormation and Terraform

Automate deployments, configuration, and patch management

Integrate CI / CD pipelines for Landing Zone Accelerator releases

Monitoring & Incident Management

Implement and maintain monitoring tools (CloudWatch, CloudTrail)

Oversee incident response and root cause analysis

Provide timely communication and reporting on incidents and outages

Team Leadership & Cross-Functional Collaboration

Lead a high-performing team of cloud operations engineers

Mentor and guide team members in best practices and AWS technical excellence

Partner with Network, Infrastructure, and Integration teams on cloud migration and operations

Migration & Support

Support application migrations from on-prem to AWS

Ensure backup and disaster recovery protocols are in place for all critical services

Performance & Documentation

Tune cloud environments for optimal performance

Maintain detailed architecture diagrams and SOPs

Deliver regular reports to senior management on cloud KPIs, spending, and incidents

Requirements

Job Requirements : Education :

Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or related discipline required

Certifications :

AWS certifications required (Solutions Architect and SysOps Administrator preferred)

Experience :

At least 8 years in AWS operations or engineering

Minimum 5 years managing cloud operations teams

Experience with AWS monitoring and automation tools (e.g., CloudWatch, Terraform, Jenkins, CloudFormation)

Skills & Competencies :

In-depth AWS architecture and services knowledge

Strong command of cloud governance, security, and compliance standards

Excellent incident response, troubleshooting, and problem-solving skills

Effective communicator and collaborative team leader

Requirements

8+ years in AWS cloud operations or engineering roles 5+ years in a cloud team leadership or management role Hands-on experience with : CloudWatch, CloudFormation, Terraform, Jenkins, and monitoring tools Cost optimization, compliance, and automation HIPAA-regulated environments (strongly preferred)
