What You'll Do
- Answer and make emergency calls to make repairs on equipment
- Demonstrate safe work practices and behaviors. Regularly inspect for, report, and correct unsafe or hazardous conditions. Actively participate in the site Safety Program
- Demonstrate these skills and processes as training progresses by producing results independently or on a team, to undertake tasks as instructed while increasing overall contribution to the department
- Work safely to prevent on the job injuries by following safety rules and regulations at all times including proper wearing of company PPE
- Maintain communication with coworkers through two-way radio and hand signals
- Maintain work area and equipment in a clean and orderly condition
- Observe, learn and understand a wide range of skills and processes while under the instruction of skilled technical personnel
- Operate mobile equipment to lift and transport materials, including loaders, cranes, manlifts and forklift
- Read and interpret condition reports, and / or repair orders. Communicate with necessary personnel for clarification of problems. May discuss preventative techniques to minimize future repairs
- Test, troubleshoot, and repair equipment to maximize safe and productive operations
- Understand all safety and environmental compliance standards, regulations and policies
- Use a large array of hand and power tools, precision measuring instruments, and test equipment
What You'll Need
Basic personal computer and corporate standard software skills (MS Word, Excel) are requiredDepending on business needs or personal interest, apprentices may be placed on a 12-hour shift rotation (days and nights)Exposure to heat, dust fumes and mists, uneven surfaces, loud noise, heights, confined spaces, poor lighting conditions, material, products and by-products associated with the manufacturing of steelGood interpersonal and communication skills are requiredGood troubleshooting and problem-solving skills are requiredKnowledge / experience in a Computerized Maintenance Management System is a plusMust be a self-starter with the ability to follow directions and work in a team environment with minimal supervisionMust be dedicated to learning the trade and willing to put in the extra time and effort to build knowledge and gain experienceMust be proficient in at least one of the basic crafts of electrician, millwright, fabricator, welder, or vehicle mechanicMust manage time appropriately, meeting hard deadlinesNormal work hours are days, Monday to Friday, with extended hours as required to meet project deadlines or resulting from periods of peak workloadRequired to climb stairs, ladders and scaffolding to access elevations, able to crouch for periods of time, push, pull, lift and turn while carrying tools, material and equipment in various parts of the facilityYour Education
High School Diploma or GED required
