Employee Relations Specialist

Do you wish to work for a purpose and make a difference in the lives of people? At Helpline Youth Counseling, a community based mental health non-profit agency with the emphasis of helping at risk families, and youth is in need of an Employee Relations Specialist.

The mission of Helpline Youth Counseling (HYC) is to help build individual, family, and community health, well-being, prosperity, and equity. HYC serves clients and community members with trauma-informed, strength-based, person-centered prevention, early intervention, education, and treatment services.

Helpline Youth Counseling, Inc. has an immediate opening for an Employee Relations Specialist. The ER Specialist will be instrumental in complex investigations, provides consultation to the leadership team regarding employee relations matters agency wide.

The incumbent will resolve complaints, misconduct and policy violations in a fair process with the upmost discretion. The incumbent will also provide guidance on disciplinary action in a consistent manner across the agency.

Ideal candidate will stay up to date on HR trends and yearly employment law updates to protect both the employees and our non-profit agency.

The focus upon hire is revising policies to ensure compliance with California regulations.

Core competencies :

  • Analytical Skills Ability to gather and interpret data, identify patterns and trends, and use logical thinking to break down complex problems, find solutions, and make informed decisions. Must have critical thinking and apply problem-solving methodologies.
  • Communication - Communicate with managers / supervisors and peers by providing information in written and / or oral form as well as in person. Written communication must be superior without the use of AI to be able to showcase critical thinking skills
  • Conflict Resolution - Has an ability to remain calm during difficult situations, resolve conflicts and negotiate with others, settle disputes, and resolve grievances and conflicts.
  • Discretion and Independent Judgment Regularly exercise discretion and independent judgment.

Minimum qualifications :

  • Bachelor's in a related field along with (3-5) years of progressive experience leading investigations and resolution of sensitive and complicated employee relation issues is required. A minimum of (10) years of progressive experience in HR specific to ER in lieu of a bachelor's degree is welcomed.
  • A minimum of (5) years of progressive experience with Labor Law is required.
  • Must have experience creating Human Resources policies.
  • Superb communication skills including effective listening, clear and concise writing and presentation
  • Must be comfortable and proficient with presenting and conducting trainings in a group setting.
  • Ability and willingness to work well in teams and collaborative environments.
  • Proficiency with MS Office or project management tools.
  • Ability to multi-task, prioritize, and work efficiently and independently.
  • Ability to travel within the agency's (4) office locations (Long Beach, Norwalk, Whittier and City of Commerce).
