Key Responsibilities of the Director of Nursing (DON)

Lead and manage all nursing care operations across the facility.

Develop, implement, and maintain nursing policies and procedures to uphold the highest standards of care and compliance.

Mentor, coach, and inspire nursing staff through guidance, feedback, and performance evaluations.

Foster a collaborative, supportive, and positive work culture.

Ensure nursing staff maintain current licensure and certifications.

Partner with interdisciplinary teams to improve resident care and operational outcomes.

Analyze patient care data to drive quality improvements and staff performance.

Manage departmental budgets efficiently to optimize resources and services.

Qualifications & Experience

Bachelor’s degree in Nursing or a related field required

Current RN licensure

Minimum of 2 years in skilled nursing leadership experience

Willingness to participate in on-call schedule

Flexibility to work nights, weekends, and holidays as needed

Strong knowledge of nursing regulations, compliance standards, and best practices

Exceptional leadership, mentoring, and team-building skills

Excellent communication and problem-solving abilities

Experience managing budgets and departmental operations

Proficiency with electronic health records and healthcare technology
