Must have PCU experience and be able to read strips. Unit includes a total of 32 beds. Nurse to patient ratios are typically 1 : 4-5, with occasional 5-6 on nights. PCU level care overflow occurs on the unit at a 1 : 3 ratio. Common diagnoses and types of patients include adults and geriatrics. Patients may have conditions such as cardiac issues, alcohol withdrawal, and those requiring COVID treatment. Occasional general surgical patients with a history of heart issues may also be present. Tele / cardiac RN is desired with PCU experience. Epic experience is preferred but first-time travelers are welcome. RNs are required to titrate drips, including Amiodarone, Cardizem, Heparin, Nitro, and Lasix. Levo is not administered on this unit. There is a charge nurse on each shift, and they may take a light load of 2-3 patients. Patient care technicians are available on this unit with a goal of a 1 : 10 ratio. RNs troubleshoot respiratory equipment including Bipap and High Flow. Tele monitor techs are present in the unit's nurse station. RNs must read and interpret their own cardiac strips. Shifts include 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. and 7 p.m. to 7 a.m. If rotating shifts, a 7-7 rotation will not occur more than weekly. The manager is responsible for scheduling, considering blocked schedules based on unit needs. Weekend and holiday requirements are every other. There is no call or standby requirement. Floating is required to all areas as necessary. Scrubs of any color are permitted. There is a two-shift unit-specific orientation. All shifts are 12 hours in length. More of a tele / cardiac focus is expected. RTO is needed upfront with limited additional RTO approval. Cancellation policy allows for 4 shifts per contract; 3 shifts for contracts under 13 weeks. The charting system used is EPIC. BSN is not required. This is a trauma level 2 care setting. This position is in the nursing division. Weekend and holiday requirements are every other. RNs must have ACLS and BLS certifications.
