Position Summary :
The Principal Reservoir Engineer is a senior technical leader and subject matter expert responsible for maximizing economic value from the companys unconventional oil and gas assets. This role leads reservoir characterization development planning and production optimization efforts while providing technical mentorship to engineering staff and strategic guidance to senior management. The position requires advanced expertise in reservoir modeling production forecasting economic evaluation and modern analytics including machine learning and numerical simulation. The Reservoir Engineer collaborates across multidisciplinary teams to drive key business decisions on asset development capital allocation and reserves management while ensuring compliance with industry standards and regulatory requirements.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities :
- Work with multidisciplinary team to generate and execute development plans with the goal of maximizing value including optimization of completion design well spacing production practices landing zones etc
- Serve as technical subject matter expert and mentor to junior reservoir engineers providing guidance on technical problems and professional development
- Analyze well performance using rate transient analysis (RTA) pressure transient analysis (PTA) and numerical simulation when necessary
- Leverage machine learning-based analytics tools to build predictive models that evaluate various development scenarios optimize drilling and completion parameters and provide data-driven recommendations for field development planning
- Interpret fiber tracer DFIT and microseismic data to optimize fracture spacing completion design and understand in-situ stress conditions
- Perform economic analyses for the purpose of AFEs and field development
- Work with the Finance team on budget and long-term forecasting consistent with Companys development plan
- Collaborate with finance team to develop corporate level targets and goals and assist with tracking and understanding variance versus Forecast production capital and other metrics
- Ensure well estimated ultimate recovery (EURs) product pricing Capex Opex pipeline tariffs processing fees processing upgrades and taxes reflect current performance
- Support Reserves team in analysis of annual reserves process including collaboration with third-party Auditors to ensure compliance with reserve reporting practices
- Evaluate and report competitor results and collaborate to implement competitors best practices where appropriate
- Prepare basin level scoping analyses and conduct reservoir simulation studies to determine optimal development plans for oil and gas reservoirs
- Represent the reservoir engineering function in corporate planning meetings operational reviews and strategic initiatives
- Maintains professional and technical knowledge by attending educational workshops reviewing professional publications and establishing personal networks
- Perform other duties as assigned
Required Experience & Education :
Bachelor of Science Degree in Petroleum Mechanical Chemical or Geologic Engineering or related field of studyMinimum seven (7) years of Exploration & Production (E&P) or relevant industry experienceExperience in Unconventional ReservoirsMix of reservoir completions planning production operations or drilling experience with active upstream operator preferredProficiency in RTA software (Whitson or Harmony preferred)Required Core Competencies Knowledge Skills Abilities
