The Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) provides direct patient care and support within a correctional healthcare setting. This role involves administering medications, performing treatments, and ensuring the health and safety of incarcerated individuals while collaborating with a multidisciplinary team in a secure environment.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities :
Provide direct patient care under the supervision of an RN or healthcare provider.
Administer medications and treatments according to approved protocols, nursing standards, and state laws.
Monitor and document patient vital signs, symptoms, and medical conditions accurately.
Assist with health assessments, screenings, and chronic disease management.
Collaborate with RNs, physicians, and other healthcare staff to develop and implement care plans.
Respond appropriately to medical emergencies within the correctional setting.
Educate patients on disease management, hygiene, and overall wellness, as appropriate.
Maintain a safe and secure environment in accordance with correctional facility policies and procedures.
Participate in quality improvement initiatives and compliance activities.
Qualifications :
Current LPN license in the state of Connecticut
CPR / BLS certification required
Previous correctional or acute care experience preferred but not required
Strong communication, documentation, and critical thinking skills
Ability to work in a secure, structured environment with diverse patient populations
