Police Officer

The City of Red Bank has an immediate opening for a Police Officer. This is a full-time position that works in partnership with the communities they serve to maintain law and order, protect members of the public and their property, prevent crime, reduce the fear of crime, and improve the quality of life for all citizens. Police Officers use a wide variety of technology and procedures to identify criminals, protect citizens from criminal activity, and ensure the successful prosecution of those who violate the parameters of law.

JOB OVERVIEW:

The right candidate will achieve by:

  • Demonstrating the ability to follow directions.
  • Demonstrating an ability to perform tasks with minimal supervision.
  • Demonstrating proficiency in conformance with Federal, State, and Local laws and ordinances.

Supervision Received: Works under the general supervision of a Team Sergeant, Division commander, and the subsequent departmental chain of command.

Supervision Exercised: None.

Salary and Benefits: (G7) $57,559.00 annually + excellent benefits.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Provide for public safety by responding to emergencies, protecting people and property, maintaining order, and enforcing laws.
  • Works an assigned shift alone or at times with a partner; expected to use educated judgment in deciding the course of action to be taken in a variety of situations.
  • Maintains availability for notification of and response to calls for service;
  • Performs law enforcement-related duties in conformance with Federal, State, and Local laws and ordinances.
  • Provides a visible presence to deter crime and reassure the community; conducts patrol duties in vehicles and on foot to prevent and discover crime and to protect and provide peace of mind to the citizens we serve.
  • Monitors, reports, and investigates suspicious persons and activities, safety hazards, and other illegal activity in the designated patrol areas.
  • Responds, both emergency and non-emergency, to calls and requests from the public on a variety of incidents.
  • Works in partnership with members of the community;
  • Investigates and takes appropriate action on information received from members of the public regarding criminal activity.
  • Diffuses potentially volatile or hostile situations with regard to the safety of the public, other officers, and themselves.
  • Interviews and interrogates suspects, victims, and witnesses.
  • Develops knowledge to identify individuals and locations at risk of criminal activity.
  • Responds to and investigates road-related incidents, including crashes, disabled vehicles, roadway hazards, and other traffic offenses.
  • Conducts initial investigations, follow-up investigations, gathers evidence, and takes verbal and written statements while complying with relevant legal requirements.
  • Attends and provides testimony and evidence in court and other legal proceedings.
  • Conducts arrests with due regard for the Constitutional Rights of the arrestees.
  • Completes/prepares a variety of law enforcement reports and forms.
  • Reviews and records facts to determine the type of report required and what necessary steps need to be taken to properly document the incident and determine the appropriate outcome of the situation.
  • Receives and complies with directives and orders from supervisory personnel, command staff, and senior officers.
  • Participates in training activities when directed;
  • Transports prisoners to and from court; ensures the prisoners are restrained properly and transported properly.
  • Issue traffic citations, warning citations, and citations in lieu of arrest.
  • Inform citizens and victims of crime of community services and resources available to facilitate a long-term resolution to a problem or concern.
  • Resolve conflicts and disputes.
  • Analyze information and make quick decisions regarding specific, sometimes volatile, and stressful situations, at times.
  • Organize, plan, and prioritize job-related activities.
  • Attend and participate in community events.
  • Performs other police-related duties as assigned.

After having met the above requirements, candidates must successfully complete the following:

  • Oral interview board composed of a combination of departmental members.
  • A comprehensive background check, including but not limited to criminal, financial, and personal history.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:

  • Some knowledge of modern law enforcement principles, procedures, techniques, and equipment.
  • Some skill in operating the tools and equipment listed below.
  • Ability to learn the applicable laws, ordinances, and department rules and regulations; ability to perform work requiring good physical condition; ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing; ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with peers and supervisors; ability to exercise sound judgment in evaluating situations and in making decisions; ability to follow verbal and written instructions.
  • Ability to meet the special requirements listed below; ability to learn the City’s geography.

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:

  • Must possess, or be able to obtain prior to appointment, a valid Driver License without any record of suspension or revocation in any state;
  • Must possess, or be able to obtain within six months after appointment, a Tennessee P.O.S.T. Certification.
  • Ability to:
    • Meet the agency’s physical fitness standard.
    • Pass a written “Basic Police” exam.
    • Pass a psychological examination.
    • Pass a polygraph examination.



EQUIPMENT:

  • Motor vehicle, radio, radar speed detection unit, “Taser”, handgun, shoulder-fired weapons, expandable baton, handcuffs, surveillance equipment, crime scene evidence collection items, as well as computers with specialized, proprietary software, and common business software products.

DESIRED MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  1. Must be 21 years or older at the time of employment.
  2. Must possess, or be able to obtain by time of hire, a valid State’s driver’s license without record of suspension or revocation in any State.
  3. Felony convictions and disqualifying criminal histories within the past seven years are not allowed;
  4. S. citizen.
  5. Must be able to read and write the English language.
  6. Must be of good moral character and of temperate and industrious habits.

Education and Experience:

  1. High school diploma or equivalent
  2. Preferred:
    1. Continuing higher education credits; i.e.: Associate or Bachelor Degree
    2. Completion of Tennessee P.O.S.T. accredited Academy
    3. Completion of a reciprocal State Law Enforcement Academy
