Position Summary

We are seeking a Senior Director of Software Engineering to lead large-scale technology programs powering Walmart International. Reporting to our Vice President of Engineering, you will be responsible for scaling global engineering teams, delivering enterprise-grade platforms, and ensuring operational excellence across multiple markets. This role requires a balance of technical expertise, organizational leadership, and strong partnership skills to drive measurable outcomes at Walmart scale.

The International Tech organization builds technology that serves customers and associates across more than 5,200 retail units in 23 countries, including Canada, Mexico, Chile, and South Africa. From enhancing digital commerce to modernizing supply chains and associate tools, our teams design and deliver resilient, scalable systems that make shopping easier and more efficient worldwide.

What You’ll Do

Translate Strategy into Action : Partner with the VP of Engineering, product, and business leaders to align roadmaps and deliver impactful solutions for international markets.

Lead & Grow Global Teams : Manage senior engineering leaders and directors, scaling high-performing, distributed teams across geographies.

Ensure Delivery Excellence : Oversee enterprise-grade, cloud-native, distributed platforms with a focus on scalability, reliability, and performance.

Champion Platform Thinking : Ensure technology solutions are reusable, extensible, and adaptable across Walmart’s international markets.

Foster Innovation : Promote adoption of modern engineering practices and emerging technologies where they drive measurable value.

Champion Operational Rigor : Drive engineering standards, SDLC best practices, and DevOps culture to ensure operational excellence.

Collaborate Across Boundaries : Work with peers and senior stakeholders across Walmart International and Global Tech to align on priorities and deliver results.

Communicate with Impact : Provide clarity of vision, progress, and outcomes to executive stakeholders, partner teams, and engineering organizations.

What You’ll Bring

15+ years of software engineering experience, with 7+ years in leadership roles managing large, distributed teams.

Proven success delivering enterprise-scale cloud and distributed systems.

Strong track record leading senior managers and directors; building leadership depth within engineering.

Excellent collaboration and communication skills across technical and executive audiences.

Customer-first mindset with the ability to connect technology to business impact.

Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or related field.

For information about PTO, see Walmart One. The annual salary range for this position is $208,000.00-$416,000.00. Additional compensation includes annual or quarterly performance bonuses.
