Job Description\n

American Traveler is hiring an experienced RN for a Pediatric Intensive Care Unit (PICU) contract requiring Idaho or compact RN licensure and pediatric critical care experience.

\n \n Responsibilities\n

  • Work in a 12-bed Pediatric Intensive Care Unit (PICU) within an acute care hospital
  • Day shifts from 7a-7p with weekend shifts required as needed
  • Nurse to patient ratio is typically 1 : 2, with census fluctuating based on season
  • Frequent floating required to pediatric, NICU units, and mandatory patient sitter assignments
  • Common patient types include trach / vent, diabetic ketoacidosis, respiratory, surgical (trachs, g-tubes, shunts), hernia repairs, and seizures; no cardiac patients
  • RNs are expected to titrate drips including propofol, fentanyl, and epinephrine
  • Epic EMR is utilized for documentation; experience preferred
  • Use of Alaris IV pumps and ventilator, bubble CPAP, and BiPAP respiratory equipment
  • No nurse aides or patient care techs on unit
  • Support a multidisciplinary team with a charge nurse present on each shift who does not take a patient assignment
  • Pediatrician in-house during the day with occasional call coverage at night
  • On-unit orientation consists of two twelve-hour shifts
  • Flexible block scheduling possible for up to five shifts when it meets unit needs
  • Scrub color is flexible and any color may be worn
  • Expected to work at least one holiday during the contract period
  • First-time travelers are welcome to apply
  • Returning permanent employees to facility must have at least one year separation before applying

  • Active Idaho or compact RN license required upon consideration
  • Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) required
  • Current BLS and PALS certifications required
  • Minimum of two years PICU nursing experience required
  • Experience with EVD, trach and ventilator care required
  • Ability to read and interpret telemetry strips required
  • Previous hospital PICU experience required
  • Driver’s license required for consideration
  • Must reside outside a 50-mile radius from facility location
  • Two professional references : one supervisor reference from the last 12 months and one peer or supervisor reference from the last three years
