Maintenance Worker
Qualifications :
- High school graduate or equivalent.
- Two years experience in general building maintenance (including but not limited to : plumbing, electrical, carpentry, HVAC, painting, construction).
- A valid Alabama Driver's License.
- Class A Commercial Driver's License (CDL) preferred.
- Good physical and emotional health including the ability to perform duties described in essential functions.
- Effective interpersonal communication skills.
- Must meet background clearance requirements as specified by Alabama statutes and State Board Of Education regulations.

Reports To : Supervisor of Maintenance / Designee
Duties And Responsibilities :
Performs general maintenance and repair tasks in a variety of areas assigned by the supervisor and in accordance with all applicable codes and regulations.Ensures that the worksite and conditions are safe.Performs assignments relating to ensuring all schools and system sites can safely open and function when assigned. This includes working cooperatively with custodial employees during emergency operations.Performs regular inspections of equipment and systems, reporting any abnormalities and hazards immediately.Responds to emergencies and performs necessary repairs.Uses the work order system, making sure that work orders have been written and approved before performing tasks, except in emergency situations.Keeps a log of all maintenance functions and repairs performed.Recommends repairs or procedures that are beyond the scope of responsibilities, skill, or experience, outlining the work needed and specifications required of an outside contractor.Ensures that all applicable fire, safety, health, and environmental regulations and laws are observed and exceeded.Maintains an adequate supply of parts and supplies usually used in repairs, and requests needed supplies through the established procedures.Operates and maintains in a safe and operational condition all tools and equipment necessary to carry out job functions and responsibilities.Reports immediately any damage or vandalism to facilities, or theft of equipment.Makes recommendations for improvement in the effectiveness and efficiency of the maintenance operations of the district.Uses computers and / or electronic equipment to fulfill job functions.Serves as a role model for students and staff in demonstrating positive attitudes, appropriate attire and grooming, and an effective work ethic.Participates in appropriate in-service and workshop programs and attends any required meetings.Assumes other reasonable and equitable job-related duties assigned by the immediate supervisor.Knowledge Skills And Abilities :
Knowledge of basic building and construction trades such as electrical, plumbing, carpentry, HVAC, masonry, and painting.Ability to safely operate and use maintenance and crafts tools and equipment; safe work practices.Ability to learn required methods and practices of assigned maintenance and crafts work.Ability to work safely and effectively around children.Understands and follows oral and written instructions.Exercises good judgment and caution in the performance of assigned duties.Establishes and maintains effective work relationships with those contacted in the performance of duties.Ability to perform routine preventive and maintenance repair work with minimum supervision.Strength and dexterity necessary to perform all required tasks including lifting items up to 100 lbs. as well as crawling, stooping, bending, climbing, working from ladders and rooftops.Terms Of Employment : Salary and benefits shall be paid consistent with the system's approved compensation plan.
