License : Current State RN Licensure
Certifications : BLS, ACLS, PALS, Stroke Certification (Must be AHA or RQI)

Description :
The Emergency Department Registered Nurse applies knowledge of nursing theory, technical skills, and communication to deliver high-quality compassionate care to patients and families.
The ED RN assesses patient needs and identifies urgent or emergent care priorities.
The nurse collaboratively provides direct care, applies appropriate interventions, and evaluates patient progress.
The ED RN evidences skill in using various invasive and non-invasive procedures to manage life-threatening and routine emergency situations.
This role utilizes the principles of relationship-based care to alleviate anxiety, provide information, and address pain, discomfort, and safety.
The ED RN assesses the physiological, psychosocial, emotional, and cultural needs of patients of all ages, their families, and support systems as appropriate.
During triage, the RN connects with patients and families to identify the initial management of patients.
The nurse assigns priority of care following established Triage Standards.
He / She establishes rapport with patients and families, addresses comfort needs, listens carefully, assesses nonverbal communication, and provides updates.
The ED RN conducts primary assessments of critical needs, detecting and documenting deviations from normal for patients of all age groups within acceptable time frames.
The nurse correctly identifies necessary steps and interventions required.
He / She uses direct observation, patient / family interviews, EMS reports, and data to conduct secondary assessments.
The ED RN identifies contributing factors, health history, events, or activities preceding the emergent health event.
The nurse assesses the psychosocial needs of each individual, documenting and reporting any suspicion of domestic violence or abuse.
He / She reassesses patients to identify treatment responses and changes in condition, responding appropriately.
The ED RN encourages mutual trust, respect, and cooperation among team members to achieve the best patient outcomes.
He / She teaches others and delegates tasks consistent with education, training, and scope of practice.
The nurse understands the personal responsibility to safeguard public safety through compliance with infection prevention strategies.
The ED RN prepares patients and families for diagnostic procedures and treatments.
He / She makes appropriate referrals for post-emergency care, teaching patients what is necessary for continued care at home.
The nurse assesses patient / family learning styles and structures education to maximize understanding.
He / She asks questions to evaluate retention of key points in education and discharge instructions.
The ED RN seeks to understand what is most important to patients and their families, acknowledging them as the central focus of care and services.
Creating a Healing Environment is a key element of professional nursing practice.
The nurse keeps patients and significant others informed of the care process and anticipates family needs.
He / She maintains awareness of the patient's condition throughout their emergency department visit and updates communication boards accordingly.
