As a cashier at Hy-Vee, you'll be part of a growing innovative brand that prides itself on providing best in class customer service. We are looking for helpful smiles who enjoy working in a fast paced, customer focused environment. The cashier provides fast and friendly service to customers, assists them with questions and requests. Operates a cash register and the duties which correspond. Packages product, works with drive-up and / or carry-out. Replenishes product as needed.

Reporting relations include the District Store Director, Store Manager, Assistant Managers of GM, Perishables, and Store Operations, and Service Managers. There are no positions that report to you.

Primary duties and responsibilities include :

• Providing prompt, efficient, and friendly customer service
• Smiling and greeting customers in a friendly manner
• Assisting customers by escorting them to products, securing out of reach items, loading or unloading heavy items
• Operating cash register accurately and scanning products
• Redeeming promotional coupons, food stamps, WIC checks, issuing rain checks, receiving cash, checks, completing credit-card charge transactions
• Placing merchandise in bags or boxes, giving packages to customers, and assisting courtesy personnel as needed
• Understanding and following local, state, and company policies on sales of tobacco, liquor, and lottery tickets
• Ensuring compliance with local, state, and federal guidelines regarding WIC and food stamps
• Stocking, facing, rotating merchandise, cleaning shelves, understanding shelf tags, knowing location of merchandise in the store and back room
• Perceiving immediate surroundings for customer needs and problems for store safety and security
• Communicating clearly and distinctly on the intercom or telephone system
• Keeping register area clean, ensuring adequate supplies are ready and available, reporting improper cash levels in cash drawer, and helping maintain store appearance
• Comparing totals on cash register with amount of currency in register to verify balances at the beginning and end of work shift
• Giving cash refunds or issuing credit memorandums to customers for returned merchandise
• Understanding and practicing proper sanitation procedures
• Maintaining strict adherence to department and company guidelines related to personal hygiene and dress
• Adhering to company policies and individual store guidelines
• Reporting to work when scheduled and on time

Education and experience : No education or experience requirements.

Physical requirements include :

Working conditions include exposure to temperature extremes, possible dampness, equipment movement hazards, electrical shock, and exposure to chemicals and solvents.

Equipment used to perform job includes pallet jack, box cutter, cash registers, trash compactor, fork lift, calculator, telephone, intercom, cardboard compactor, copier, fax.
