My Sister's House serves women and children by providing a safe environment, wrap-around services, and hope for a new beginning. As a Mental Health & Substance Abuse Counselor, you will play a vital role in supporting women as they address emotional, behavioral, and substance use challenges. This position combines clinical expertise with a compassionate, trauma-informed approach to help clients move toward stability and transformation.
The salary range for this role is inclusive of 3 levels of credentials : Master's Degree earned, Associate License earned, and Full Professional License earned. Please note that we determine a compensable starting rate based on Education, Licensure, and Experience.
Essential Responsibilities
Client Engagement & Orientation
- Orients clients and their families / support systems to the counseling process, guidelines, and expectations.
- Builds trust with clients through empathy, consistency, and professional boundaries.
Clinical Assessment & Planning
Conducts thorough screenings, clinical evaluations, and assessments for assigned caseloads.Develops, manages, and monitors individualized service plans with measurable emotional and recovery-focused goals.Regularly documents progress toward treatment objectives in compliance with agency, state, and federal standards.Counseling Services
Provides high-quality individual, group, and family counseling services using evidence-based practices.Facilitates therapeutic and psycho-educational groups on topics such as emotional regulation, relapse prevention, coping strategies, and trauma recovery.Encourages client accountability and growth within a supportive, structured framework.Crisis Intervention & Support
Provides immediate crisis intervention and de-escalation when needed.Assists in assessments for involuntary interventions and ensures client and staff safety.Collaboration & Teamwork
Communicates client updates through written reports and verbal consultation, utilizing Microsoft Outlook and Salesforce for documentation and coordination.Actively participates in multidisciplinary case conferences, team meetings, and program planning sessions.Serves as a clinical resource for peers and contributes to continuous learning and improvement of clinical services.Professional Development & Accountability
Engages in weekly supervision with the Make Progress Leader and Campus Director.Stays current on best practices in mental health counseling, addiction recovery, and trauma-informed care.Qualifications

Education & Licensure
Licensure (or active pursuit of licensure) is required for this role . All candidates and employees must remain in good standing with the State Board of Professional Counselors and be eligible to practice-either under approved supervision or with full licensureMaster's Degree in one or more of the following : Mental Health Counseling, Marriage and Family Therapy, Social Work, or a related field that supports the requirements set by the State Board of Professional CounselorsNew hires have 90 days to furnish the acceptance of their application for licensure from the state.On-site supervision is provided & employees in a clinical mental health counseling role have 5 years to become fully licensed.Experience
Minimum of 2 years of clinical experience in substance abuse, addiction recovery, and / or mental health counseling.Demonstrated ability to apply DSM-5 diagnostic criteria and evidence-based interventions.Skills & Competencies
Strong crisis intervention and de-escalation skills with the ability to respond calmly and effectively.High emotional intelligence and cultural competence when working with diverse and vulnerable populations.Knowledge of ethical standards (e.g., NASW, ACA codes of ethics) and confidentiality requirements (HIPAA, ADA).Excellent oral and written communication skills to engage clients, collaborate with staff, and maintain accurate documentation.Proficient in Microsoft Office and case management systems (Salesforce preferred).Strong organizational and time management skills with the ability to balance multiple priorities.Ability to work independently while thriving in a collaborative, team-based environment.Physical Requirements :
Position requires remaining stationary for long periods of time and to move and walk to various locations, climb stairs, stoop, kneel, reach, pull, push, bend and twist.Must have the ability to operate a computer. Must also have the ability to operate other office equipment, such as a copy machine, calculator and computer printerMust be able to communicate accurate informationMust be able to occasionally lift and / or carry up to 10lbsEnvironmental Job Requirement :

While this position will primarily serve one campus, this position may require travel to additional campuses associated with Atlanta Mission for training and cross training purposes.
