Job Title : Mold Set-Up Technician

Job Description

Under the direction of the Maintenance Supervisor, the Mold Set-Up Technician is primarily responsible for the set-up of injection and blow molding machines and maintenance tasks.

Responsibilities

  • Set up injection and blow molding machines for shaping plastics.
  • Read and interpret blueprints and diagrams to select, position, and secure machinery.
  • Adjust machine settings to complete mold setup tasks accurately and timely according to specifications and standards.
  • Install dies in and out of machines using clamps, bolts, and hand tools as specified in work orders.
  • Complete all necessary paperwork, such as cycle time sheets and set-up sheets, in a timely and precise manner.
  • Set up molds and cycle them into specifications within a reasonable amount of time.
  • Possess basic knowledge of hydraulic and electrical systems to troubleshoot minor problems.
  • Understand different materials and cycles and explain why different materials require different cycles.
  • Make proper adjustments to machines when products are not meeting specifications.
  • Know the proper procedures for shutting down and starting up machines.
  • Clean and perform preventive maintenance on molds and tooling as required.
  • Clean and maintain machines as required.
  • Drive and operate forklifts when necessary.

Essential Skills

  • Experience in injection and blow molding machine set-up.
  • Ability to read and interpret blueprints and schematics.
  • Basic knowledge of hydraulic, electrical, and pneumatic systems.
  • Mechanical troubleshooting skills in a manufacturing environment.
  • Experience in preventive maintenance.
  • Ability to use hand and power tools.
  • Additional Skills & Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent preferred or 5+ years’ experience in a Maintenance Role.
  • Some post-secondary education preferred (i.e., technical or vocational education).
  • Basic math, computer, and organizational skills.
  • Must be able to read, write, speak, and understand English.
  • Experience within the plastics industry is a must.

    This flexible packaging company services various industries around the world. The facility is 90,000 sq feet with 15 extrusion lines and 2 labeling lines, focusing on plastic extrusion for various foods and consumer products, including shampoo, lotion, and cleaning solution bottles. The machines are primarily mechanical, hydraulic, and pneumatic driven.
