Job Summary Plant Superintendent
Is responsible for leading day-to-day manufacturing, maintenance, and facility operations with direct oversight of working leads, maintenance technicians, and support staff. Has full accountability for driving production performance, equipment uptime, safety, and plant cleanliness. The Superintendent is a hands-on leader who fosters accountability, collaboration, and continuous improvement, particularly across robotic systems and CNC machining centers. This position also leads the plant safety committee and supports strategic objectives in cost, quality, and delivery.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities
Production & Operations Leadership
- Coordinate and oversee all production activities through working leads and floor personnel to meet daily, weekly, and monthly output goals.
- Monitor manufacturing KPIs such as throughput, scrap, efficiency, and rework.
- Maintain daily communication points with teams to align on production goals, safety, and priorities.
- Act as the primary escalation point for production issues and remove operational roadblocks.
- Collaborate with Procurement, Engineering, and Quality to align production with customer demand and specifications.
- Implement and sustain Lean manufacturing practices including 5S, standard work, and waste reduction.
- Provide leadership for shift changes, task prioritization, and consistent application of work instructions.
Maintenance & Asset Management
Supervise Maintenance Technicians and manage both preventive and corrective maintenance activities.Ensure high uptime of key assetsparticularly CNC machining centers and robotic systemsthrough robust PM programs.Track and analyze equipment performance, downtime causes, and Just Do It forms to drive root cause solutions.Use CMMS (e.g., Emaint) for scheduling and documenting maintenance activity.Coordinate contractor work and vendor support for specialized repairs or facility upgrades.Facilities & Housekeeping
Oversee janitorial staff and ensure the entire plantincluding production, breakrooms, restrooms, and groundsmeets cleanliness and safety standards.Coordinate maintenance of HVAC, lighting, gates, fire systems, and structural integrity of the facility.Manage waste removal, recycling, snow removal, and general yard upkeep.Safety & Compliance Leadership
Serve on the Safety Committee and lead all committee meetings and initiatives.Coordinate and conduct safety audits directly or delegate as needed; ensure prompt implementation of corrective actions.Maintain compliance with OSHA and internal safety policies, including LOTO, PPE, and forklift training.Train and certify employees on powered industrial trucks, overhead cranes, and other equipment as needed.Lead incident investigations and maintain safety logs and reporting.Personnel Management & Leadership
Provide day-to-day direction and leadership to working leads, operators, maintenance staff.Actively coach and mentor team members; identify skill gaps and support employee development through hands-on training or external resources.Monitor employee attendance, performance, and adherence to policies; enforce disciplinary action in coordination with HR as needed.Participate in hiring, onboarding, and cross-training of staff.Foster a positive and accountable work environment focused on respect, productivity, and continuous improvement.Work Schedule & Availability
This position requires flexibility in work hours based on operational demands. Workdays typically range from 8 to 11 hours, with scheduling varying between 4 to 5 days per week :
Some weeks may follow a 4-day, 10+ hour shift model.Others may follow a 5-day, 89 hour schedule.Occasional early starts or extended hours may be required to meet deadlines.
Qualifications
Education & Experience
Associates or Bachelors degree in Manufacturing, Industrial Technology, or related field preferred.710 years of progressive experience in manufacturing operations, and or maintenance leadership.Prior hands-on experience with robotic automation and CNC machining strongly preferred.Skills & Knowledge
Deep knowledge of manufacturing processes such as machining, welding, robotic automation, and assembly.Familiarity with hydraulic, pneumatic, mechanical, and electrical systems.Working knowledge of OSHA safety standards and environmental compliance.Proficient in Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, Outlook) and CMMS tools (e.g., Emaint or similar).Strong communication, leadership, and conflict-resolution skills.Ability to lead by example in a high-expectation, continuous improvement culture.
