24 Seven is hiring : Typography Artist (freelance) in Chicago

Overview

Our client is seeking a Typography Artist to join their team from October through June, with potential to extend. Candidates local to Chicago are preferred.

This role will be responsible for developing custom type treatments for booth signage and branded experiences, using our current typeface as a foundation. From illustrated and rendered lettering to neon and animated executions, they’ll bring type to life in ways that elevate storytelling and visual impact. Additionally, they’ll lead the creation of a rounded version, refining letterforms and typesetting it into a fully functional font.

Key Responsibilities

• Design custom typography treatments for booth signage and activations across the floor and digitally based on approved typefaces.
• Explore and execute type in various forms : flat illustration, dimensional illustration, rendered lettering, neon, and animation (bonus).
• Develop a rounded version of the current typeface, adjusting letterforms and producing a usable font file.
• Collaborate with internal creative team to ensure type treatments translate across mediums.
• Maintain consistency with brand guidelines while pushing creative boundaries.
