Job Description\n

American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for a night shift ICU position requiring an active OR RN license and proficiency with ventilator and pressor management.

\n \n Responsibilities\n

  • Work in an acute care ICU within a hospital setting
  • General medical / surgical critical care population, including STEMI, PNA, COVID, DKA, CVA, ETOH, and overdose cases
  • Typical nurse-to-patient ratio is 1 : 2, with occasional 1 : 1 or higher ratios when covering overflow patients
  • Will float between ICU and PCU, and may care for PCU and Med / Surg overflow within ICU
  • 12-hour night shifts with variable scheduling based on unit needs
  • Every other weekend and holiday coverage required
  • No on-call or standby requirement
  • Utilizes devices such as vents, V60, BiPap, Cpap, and high flow nasal cannula (HFNC)
  • Central Monitoring Unit staff and monitor tech support 24 / 7; RNs read strips and confirm measurements
  • Epic EMR system is used for charting
  • Primary duties include management of critically ill patients and titration of vasoactive medications
  • Charge nurse is present on the unit and takes patients
  • Hospitalist available in-house 24 / 7; intensivist available by page
  • Respiratory therapy present in ICU 24 / 7
  • Orientation provided based on previous experience and familiarity with the hospital
  • Clean, professional attire required; no specific scrub color
  • First-time travelers are welcome if they meet experience requirements
  • Holiday coverage will be needed as scheduled
  • Housing with pets may be difficult to secure in the area

  • Active OR RN license in hand required
  • BLS and ACLS certifications required
  • Minimum 1 year of ICU RN experience required; 2.5-3 years strongly preferred
  • Experience with ventilator and pressor management required
  • Preferred experience with Impella and intra-aortic balloon pump (IABP)
  • Ability to titrate drips such as Precedex, insulin, epi, norepi, and propofol
  • Must be able to float to PCU and care for overflow patients
  • No BSN required for consideration
