Location : Edison, New Jersey
Schedule : Nights – 7 : 00 PM to 7 : 30 AM (3x12s)
Duration : 13 weeks, with possible extension based on performance
Shift Requirements : Every other weekend, 1 holiday per season Department : Float Pool – including ED Holding
Job Summary :
The Patient Care Technician (PCT) is responsible for assisting Registered Nurses in delivering high-quality, compassionate care to patients. The PCT supports clinical operations, enhances patient comfort, and performs a wide range of patient care duties across various hospital units, including floating as needed.
Key Responsibilities :
- Welcome patients and verify ID bands.
- Assist with patient admissions, physical exams, and procedures.
- Perform phlebotomy using proper aseptic techniques on patients from newborn to geriatric.
- Conduct EKGs as directed.
- Provide direct patient care including hygiene, toileting, oral care, feeding, and bed-making.
- Record and report vital signs, blood glucose levels, weights, and intake / output.
- Assist with turning, positioning, and mobility — especially for patients on oxygen, trachs, or vents
- Support safe patient transport and respond promptly to call lights.
- Prepare patient rooms for admissions and maintain cleanliness of equipment.
- Monitor and restock supplies in assigned areas.
- Communicate effectively with patients, caregivers, and healthcare team members.
- Adapt care based on age, cultural background, language, and cognitive needs.
Qualifications :
