Think Tank is seeking a Seasonal Sea-Going Technician Level III to assist NOAA with annual fishery-independent monitoring surveys in the Northwest Atlantic Ocean . These positions focus on field sampling and data collection at sea -no land-based support between trips is required.
RESPONSIBILITIES :
- Participate in 5–140 days at sea annually , standing up to 12-hour watches .
- Assist with sorting, identifying, measuring, dissecting, and sampling fish and invertebrates, including age, growth, maturity, genetics, and diet studies.
- Collect and annotate optical survey data (image review, species ID, organism measurements).
- Maintain scientific protocols to ensure high-quality data collection.
- Support general shipboard sampling activities, organization, and clean-up .
- Operate and troubleshoot electronic data acquisition systems .
- Lead field parties / watches of up to seven staff.
REQUIREMENTS :
- Experience identifying fish and invertebrate species in the Northwest Atlantic Ocean .
- Experience working aboard research vessels.
- Familiarity with bottom trawls and / or scallop and clam dredges.
- Ability to work 12-hour shifts at sea .
- Experience leading teams during fieldwork.
- Familiarity with electronic data acquisition systems .
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Strong teamwork skills with the ability to also work independently.
