Required Education, Skills, and Certifications

Completion of an accredited Operating Room Technician (ORT) program. OR

Required : Basic Life Support (BLS) certification for healthcare providers.

Active National Certification as an ORT in Surgery OR

Duties Summary

The Surgery Tech performs various duties as a member of the surgical team under the supervision of a Registered Nurse. Key responsibilities include :

36572232\n\n\nRequired Education, Skills, and Certifications\n\nEducation : Completion of an accredited Operating Room Technician (ORT) program. OR\n\nGraduated from a non-accredited surgical tech program within the past 6 months. OR\n\nTwo (2) years of scrub tech experience in hospital / military surgical services within the last Three (3) years.\n\nCertifications : Required : Basic Life Support (BLS) certification for healthcare providers.\n\nPreferred Certifications : Active National Certification as an ORT in Surgery OR\n\nCertified Surgical Technologist (CST).\n\nSpecific Experience Note : Ortho / Neuro / Spine experience is noted in the Schedule Notes.\nDuties Summary\n\n\n\nThe Surgery Tech performs various duties as a member of the surgical team under the supervision of a Registered Nurse. Key responsibilities include : \n\nMaintaining accountability for sterilization criteria and the sterile field.\n\nRecognizing and addressing sharps and fire safety processes.\n\nPreparing the operating room and instruments for the procedure.\n\nAssisting the surgeon(s) during the procedure (within ORT scope of practice).\n\nAssisting with room turnover, cleaning, and preparation for the next procedure.\n\nIdentifying emergency situations and exercising judgment when implementing response procedures.
