Job Summary :

The University of Colorado School of Medicine (CUSOM), Office of Medical Education is seeking a collaborative and mission driven academic services professional to join our Office of Research Education team as the Program Coordinator for the Medical Scientist Training Program (MSTP).

This entry to intermediate professional will be vital in supporting the Medical Scientist Training Program (MSTP) by coordinating curriculum activities, program events, and data management systems. Reporting to the Business Services Program Manager, this position serves as a primary point of contact for students, applicants, faculty, and other stakeholders. As a student-facing role, the coordinator is actively involved in major program activities and events. This hybrid position requires up to three days per week on campus, with occasional evening and weekend hours to support key events.

Key Responsibilities :

Curriculum Coordination -

Coordinate MSTP graduate-level courses by managing syllabi, schedules, and faculty participation while ensuring compliance with campus standards.

Oversee logistics and resources including classroom reservations, course materials, Canvas management, and event support.

Support students and faculty through timely communication, accessible learning materials, and on-site assistance during curriculum events.

Student Progression and Data Management

Manage student records and data systems by entering, auditing, and updating key information across program databases.

Coordinate student advising activities by scheduling 1 : 1 and small group sessions with program leadership.

Ensure compliance with policies and guidelines related to degree progress, onboarding, and student affairs.

Admissions and Recruitment

Coordinate applicant interviews and recruitment activities, including faculty scheduling, applicant itineraries, and student engagement.

Manage travel and logistics for recruitment events, ensuring compliance with program and university guidelines.

Provide on-site support for admissions and recruitment functions across campus and local venues.

Event Planning

Plan and coordinate program events such as seminar series, specialty courses, retreats, journal clubs, and student recruitment activities.

Manage event logistics including venue selection, budgeting, promotion, and RSVP tracking.

Administrative Support

Act as primary liaison and point of contact for students, faculty, campus departments, and external stakeholders, ensuring smooth communication and coordination.

Provide administrative support by scheduling meetings and assisting with student services such as registrar, financial aid, insurance, and related areas.

Work Location :

Hybrid : Eligible to work a hybrid remote schedule with up to 3 days a week remote. Additional on-site days may be required as needed. Please see the campus-wide policy for additional information.

The University of Colorado Anschutz Medical Campus Medical Scientist Training Program (MSTP) was established in 1983 and obtained NIH / MSTP continuous funding since 1993, which was successfully renewed in 2023. The goal of this Program is to train a diverse cadre of MD / PhD dual-degree students to become outstanding physician-scientists and future leaders in biomedical research. To accomplish this goal, the MSTP Admissions Committee selects students from an ever-expanding national applicant pool, seeking out those candidates whose record of research, academic, and leadership achievements are exemplary.

The annual applicant pool size for the University of Colorado MSTP has increased significantly, from 154 in 2007 to 456 in 2024. The MSTP matriculates 10-11 students annually. The current roster includes 88 students (50% female; 19% URM; 33% have come from disadvantaged background in the past five admissions cycles) that come from across the nation, from elite universities, and with ~30 months of prior research experience.

Via collaboration between the MSTP and SOM, a rigorous MD / PhD training program has been developed with a curriculum that interdigitates graduate and medical school. An MSTP-specific Molecules to Medicine course, seminar series, and longitudinal clinical experience during thesis years have been developed for the MSTP trainees. For thesis research, students choose from ~200 total MSTP faculty in 16 graduate training programs. MSTPs train at three sites : the Anschutz Medical Campus, National Jewish Health, and the University of Colorado at Boulder. Outcomes data for the Program show that ~75% of the trainees who have completed all their training are in research-focused careers in academia, government (CDC, NIH) or Pharma / biotech.

Bachelor's in education, psychology, business, public administration, health care, educational technology, social science, liberal arts, communications, accounting, finance, library science, women and gender studies, psychology, computer science, information systems, business, health sciences, physical sciences, public administration, business administration, higher education, counseling, hospitality, human services, and student affairs.

Intermediate :

At least 1 year of broad and diversified professional experience that has included relevant administrative responsibilities.

A combination of education and related technical / paraprofessional experience may be substituted for the bachelor's degree on a year for year basis.

Preferred qualifications :

Prior experience in higher education or healthcare as a teaching assistant, student worker, or administrative professional

Experience with database management and data entry processes.

Experience working with UIS, CU-SIS, PeopleSoft or similar electronic student information system.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities :

Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships diverse program stakeholders including students, faculty, and administrative staff.

Outstanding customer service skills.

Knowledge of and ability to apply accepted theories, practices, and principles of general management and administration.

Ability to take initiative to establish work priorities and follow-through to insure timely completion of activities.

Advanced communication skills and the ability to provide regular reporting to applicable stakeholders in both written and verbal modalities

Ability to solve problems in a supportive and thoughtful manner, taking into consideration the various personalities and perspectives of constituents

Strong level of personal accountability and the ability to work independently with limited direct supervision.

The starting salary range ( or hiring range ) for this position has been established as

Entry : $45,017 - $57,262

Intermediate : $48,989 - $62,314
