Job description

Director Of Student Activities

The Director of Student Activities develops and plans student involvement and extracurricular education opportunities for all students. This position serves as the administrator for the following programs : Student Activities, Campus Activities Board, Greek Life, and Registered Student Organizations.

Responsible for the administration of office and programming budgets; monitors fiscal condition of programming decisions and contractual obligations. Aids in fostering tradition-building activities, to retain and support students. Manages the Student Activities Office. Collaborates with University offices and adheres to all policies.

Specific Duties And Responsibilities

Essential Duties :

Oversees all aspects of the department's programs and services (including : program development and administration, guest services, public relations, budget development and strategic planning).

Collaborates with other University offices to coordinate the scheduling of events to prevent overlapping and to sustain tradition-building activities (such as Welcome Week, Homecoming, etc.).

Develops and implements long-term growth plans for Campus Activities Board, Registered Student Organizations, and Greek Life.

Promotes student engagement programs to perspective and current students at recruitment, campus, and community events.

Develops, approves and administers the overall departmental budget for Student Activities and All-campus Picnics.

Advises Campus Activities Board (CAB), including the planning and facilitation of an average of one-hundred (100) events per academic year and the recruitment and retention of CAB members.

Collaborates with University Relations & Marketing (URM) to develop and execute a comprehensive marketing strategy for the Campus Activities Board (CAB), Registered Student Organizations (RSOs), and Greek Life. Utilizes multiple channels, including social media, text messaging, email campaigns, and printed materials, to maximize student engagement and event visibility.

Negotiates and manages contracts with third-party vendors and talent agencies on behalf of CAB and Student Activities. Ensures financial feasibility by aligning expenditures with budget allocations and securing necessary approvals for high-value contracts.

Represents department and Division on various campus committees and councils (Homecoming Planning Committee, Campus Vibrancy, etc.).

Supervises Greek Life and programs, including three fraternities and two sororities, Greek Reporting Meeting, PanHellenic, and Order of Omega.

Prepares departmental reports and Student Activities related publications.

Evaluates student programs and events for usage, interest, and modification and analyzes data compilations from end of semester reports and surveys.

Serves as a primary user of the student engagement software.

Assists in the supervision of Student Activities events during business hours, evening hours, and / or weekend hours as necessary.

Collaborates with campus partners to develop and implement programs that promote student health, well-being, and holistic development, addressing physical, mental, and social wellness through targeted initiatives and campus-wide engagement. Monitors all of Student Activities' budgets and expenditures and oversees the interdepartmental budget.

Evaluates student programs and events for usage, interest, and modification.

Serves as a liaison for CAB and Student Engagement with talent agencies and other university offices.

Performs other related duties as required.

Education, Experience, And Licenses

Bachelor's degree required in Student Personnel, Student Affairs, Counseling, Education Administration, Health Promotion, Wellness, Recreation, or related field.

One year prior related experience in Student Activities administration, operation, functions or related professional experience is required.

Master's degree preferred.

Three years applicable experience is preferred.

CPR / AED Certification preferred.

  • Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, commissions, proportions, and percentages.
  • Ability to apply concepts of basic math.
  • Ability to define problems, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions.
  • Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions including entertainment contracts.
  • Ability to make recommendations that impact the budget.
  • Ability to use computers for word processing and / or accounting purposes.
  • Ability to establish policies for using, acquiring, and / or maintaining technology systems.
  • Ability to practice high ethical standards, adhere to FERPA standards, and the practice confidentiality with work-related information including employee information.

The employee must occasionally lift and / or move up to 50 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, and ability to adjust focus.

The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate. However, occasionally the employee is exposed to very loud music during rock-type concerts.
