Animal Resources Supervisor, DPRI And HDB Facilities, Animal Resources Center
The Animal Resources Supervisor is responsible for overseeing animal care operations and managing vivarium facilities located in the Dell Pediatric Research Institute (DPRI) and Health Discovery Building (HDB) facilities. This role ensures all activities and operations are conducted in compliance with federal, state, local, and university regulations and standards. The Supervisor serves as a primary point of contact for vivarium users and staff, providing guidance, support, and oversight to maintain high standards of animal care and facility management.
Coordinates all husbandry and logistical operations for assigned vivarium facilities. Ensures that all facilities and animal care standards align with departmental guidelines. Communicates with researchers to ensure that their scientific needs are supported.
Proactively identifies noncompliance with standard operating procedures (SOPs) and works with the ARC Husbandry Manager to formulate corrective action plans. Performs facility inspections and monitoring, and reports findings to the ARC Husbandry Manager. Communicates findings orally or in writing and follows directives for corrective action plans. Ensures compliance with all federal, state, and university rules and regulations. Meets accreditation standards set by AAALAC and the UT IACUC.
Supervises animal husbandry staff working in DPRI and HDB facilities. Follows UT and OVPR best practices related to all aspects of employee supervision. Coordinates all training for staff with the ARC Trainer and the ARC Husbandry Manager to ensure staff are properly trained and able to perform assigned tasks.
Manages and executes all UTRMS (Animal Operations Software) processes for all assigned facilities.
Works with staff and the ARC Husbandry Manager to prioritize tasks and ensure that all staffing resources are being optimally utilized, focusing on compliance and efficiency. Collaborates closely with the ARC Husbandry Manager to ensure efficient workflow for the assigned Animal Care Facilities. Ensures completion of assigned tasks in all assigned facilities.
Manages staff recruitment, progressive disciplinary action, and other personnel management tasks with input from the ARC Husbandry Manager. Drafts and discusses annual performance evaluations with employees.
Works with the ARC management team to ensure sufficient staff coverage during holidays and weekend work for animal care. Provides on-call weekend coverage.
Responsible for all facility orders and supply procurement.
High School Diploma or GED
Current AALAS LAT certification or LAT Certification obtained within one year from start date.
At least 5 years of related laboratory animal experience
3 years working in a research or laboratory animal resources facility
Must complete a physical abilities Worksteps test.
Bachelor's degree in a relevant field.
