The Communications and Public Relations Intern will gain professional communications/non-profit exposure and experience working with members of the St. Louis Symphony Orchestra Marketing and Communications team. This position requires approximately 20-25 hours per week and may be scheduled around school requirements. This internship is for summer 2026—approximately mid-May through mid-August. Compensation is $15/hour. Position reports to Public Relations Director.
RESPONSIBILTIES:
- Research, write, and edit copy for marketing and communications materials, including media advisories and press releases; composer and guest artist biographical information; website copy; and digital stories.
- Collate, archive, and organize media coverage; update and maintain media lists.
- Pitch, research, and write stories about the orchestra, its people, and its programs for the orchestra’s digital magazine, SLSO Stories.
- Support Public Relations functions, including interview preparation, media pitches, press kit creation and maintenance, and media events.
- Support SLSO social media activities as needed.
- Participate in departmental and editorial meetings.
- Represent the SLSO at the marketing table at occasional night or weekend events.
- Other duties as assigned.
REQUIREMENTS:
- Must be pursuing a career in marketing, communications or public relations; or are in pursuit of or have recently received a college degree, preferably in the fields of Communications, Marketing, Journalism, Public Relations, Business, Music, or Non-Profit Management.
- Demonstrated proficiency in writing, communication, and organization.
- Ability to work with confidential information.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite.
- Reliable transportation and ability to attend occasional night or weekend events.
- Under general direction, works from general objectives with little functional guidance.
- Knowledge and passion for music a plus.
