Job Summary :
The Security and Fire Alarm Technician is responsible for installing, inspecting, testing, repairing, and maintaining fire alarm and security systems in commercial and residential properties. This role ensures all systems are operating correctly, meet safety standards, and comply with applicable codes and regulations.
Key Responsibilities :
- Install, program, and configure fire alarm panels, security systems, access control, and CCTV equipment.
- Perform routine inspections, testing, and maintenance of fire alarm and security systems to ensure compliance with NFPA, state, and local codes.
- Troubleshoot, diagnose, and repair system malfunctions, wiring issues, and component failures.
- Conduct system upgrades, modifications, and replacements as needed.
- Complete accurate service documentation, inspection reports, and work orders.
- Provide customers with training and guidance on proper system operation and maintenance.
- Coordinate with contractors, electricians, and building personnel to ensure proper system integration.
- Maintain inventory of tools, equipment, and replacement parts.
- Follow all company and safety procedures when working on-site or with live systems.
- Respond to emergency service calls and perform after-hours work when required.
Qualifications :
High school diploma or equivalent (technical or trade school preferred).2+ years of experience in fire alarm, security, or low-voltage systems installation and service.Working knowledge of NFPA 72, NEC, and local building / fire codes.Experience with systems such as Honeywell, Silent Knight, Bosch, Notifier, DSC, or similar.Ability to read and interpret blueprints, wiring diagrams, and schematics.Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills.Valid driver’s license with a clean driving record.NICET certification or state fire alarm / security license preferred.Excellent communication and customer service skills.Ability to work independently and manage multiple assignments effectively.Work Environment :
Field-based role involving travel to customer sites.May include overtime, on-call rotation, and emergency response work.
