This position provides assistive care to patients. The incumbent facilitates the efficient delivery of patient care, supports the professional role of the licensed staff, and provides support and assistance as directed by licensed staff in rendering basic healthcare to the patient. This position also assists with clerical functions as a multi-skilled auxiliary worker. This position provides direct patient care and may be required to access and administer medications within their scope of practice and according to state law.
Responsibilities include preparing patients for examinations and diagnostic procedures, reporting patient concerns, performing lab tests, acting as a chaperone, monitoring and cleaning patient rooms, answering telephones, assisting with clerical functions, attending mandatory education, performing patient phlebotomy, applying leads for diagnostic procedures, assisting with patient education and transportation, instructing in Basic Life Support, and performing IV access.
Knowledge, skills, and abilities required include human relation and communication skills, proficiency in clinic skills, and the ability to meet physical demands.
Qualifications required include verifiable completion of an EMT course, one year of medical assistant experience, medical assisting education, or University Hospital Medical Assistant certification program. Licenses required include current RQI Healthcare Provider eCredential.
