Used Equipment Inspector

SUMMARY

The Used Equipment Inspector inspects the operational condition of used heavy earthmoving and agricultural equipment for purchase or trade-in, providing technical support for equipment valuation. The role includes providing CAT Certified machine operation and safety training to current and prospective customers. This job requires the ability to diagnose and estimate repairs, understanding how a machine should operate and perform.

RESPONSIBILITIES

• Analyze the condition of heavy earthmoving and agricultural equipment considered for purchase or trade-in using the CATUSED.COM website.
• Determine the condition of equipment, estimate repair costs, and provide recommendations for purchase or trade-in.
• Provide technical expertise and support to improve the products sold and serviced by the dealer.
• Maintain records of inspections, including photographs of equipment as required.
• Support the Sales Manager, sales, and service departments with technical assistance, such as Product Improvement Program (PIP) and attachments.
• Review service repairs for accuracy in cost and quality.
• Travel locally and out of area to user / purchaser locations for equipment inspections and demonstrations.
• Research new CAT equipment to understand new features and operator procedures.
• Maintain department vehicle and technical tools.
• Adhere to all safety policies and company standards at all times.

QUALIFICATIONS

High School Diploma or GED required; Bachelor's degree preferred. Five to seven years of related experience as a methodical technician with substantial knowledge of heavy equipment, or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Valid California Driver's License required for transportation and demonstration purposes.
