SUBSTITUTE CERTIFIED BEHAVIOR SPECIALIST

POSITION OBJECTIVE :

The position of Certified Behavior Specialist is for the purpose of planning, organizing, directing and implementing behavior intervention and support plans for identified students at secondary level.

DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES : (These duties are a representative sample; position assignments may vary.)

• Makes recommendations to staff who support individualized behavior programming.
• Utilizes data to plan, supervise, evaluate and revise instructional and behavior programs to meet student needs.
• Plans and provides in-service / training programs for parents and staff.
• Provides input and recommendations for individual education programs and evaluations / reevaluations of students.
• Provides technical assistance by conducting functional assessments and analyzing the whole learning environment related to student skills acquisition.
• Assists in the development, facilitation, implementation and follow-up of training in the analysis of student behavior.
• Provides consultation services related to the duties of the position. Keeps current with the literature, new research findings and resources in field of expertise.
• Works collaboratively with school staff to implement instructional and behavior plans to enhance student's independence within the school setting.
• Ensures instructional information, materials and resources are readily available for staff and students and are appropriate to meet instructional and behavior needs of students.
• Ensures responsive communications with students, families, staff and community agencies.
• Exhibits effective leadership and collaboration within the schools, and special education program to enhance and support student achievement.
• Oversees the collection analysis of data related to the duties of the position.
• Performs other job-related duties as assigned.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS :

Positions in this class typically require : stooping, kneeling, crouching, reaching, standing, walking, pushing, pulling, lifting, finger dexterity, grasping, talking, hearing, seeing, and repetitive motions.

Medium Work : Exerting up to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and / or up to 20 pounds of force frequently, and / or up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects.

Incumbents may be subjected to moving mechanical parts, odors, chemicals, extreme temperatures, inadequate lighting, workspace restrictions, and intense noises.

CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT :

These are on-call positions. The number of days or hours that a substitute works is dependent upon the number of contracted teachers who are absent on any given day. No specific guarantee of work is offered. Days 1-15 up to $241.00 / day (based on an 8 hour assignment) and 16 days onward up to t $277.00 / day (based on an 8 hour assignment). Substitutes are not eligible for benefits until they work 630h in a certain school year.

Verification of identity and United States work authorization must be completed. The successful candidate for this position must be fingerprinted. Employment is contingent upon clearance by Washington State Patrol and Federal Bureau of Investigation.
