What is foster care?

Foster care is when an individual, couple or family opens their home and welcomes a child to live with them temporarily. Foster parents are responsible for the care, safety, and nurturance of the child(ren) placed into your home. This includes :

• day-to-day care such as food, educational and emotional support.
• practical support as needed such as scheduling doctor appointments, attending meetings and court hearings and being an advocate for the child.
• transporting them to their appointments, school activities, visits with birth family, etc.
