Pay Grade

PM-4 ($76,752 - $115,148)

Normal Working Hours

Monday – Friday, 7 : 30 A.M. to 4 : 30 P.M. (Work shifts and hours of work may vary. There is flexibility with the hour start and end times)

Job Summary

Under the general supervision of the Information Technology Manager, assists in providing support for Windows servers, Windows workstations, Microsoft SQL Databases, Microsoft Access Databases, migrating existing older Microsoft Access Databases into Microsoft SQL Server Databases with updated web interfaces using PHP or other scripting languages. Responsible for troubleshooting database / programming issues and vacation fill-in for other System Administrators. Continuous training is required to upgrade his / her technical knowledge as changes occur in the industry.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities :

  • Provides a high level of professional customer service and support to employees in multiple departments to support and assist in City operations and systems.
  • Maintains and troubleshoots Windows Servers.
  • Creates, maintains, and troubleshoots databases using relational database design.
  • Maintains and troubleshoots older Microsoft Access databases to Microsoft SQL Server.
  • Creates, maintains, and troubleshoots Microsoft SQL Server databases.
  • Migrates Microsoft Access databases to Microsoft SQL Server and troubleshoots to ensure continuity in software systems.
  • Creates, maintains, and troubleshoots reports generated from information in City databases and other operating systems.
  • Working with department heads and applicable support staff, implements new database-driven software solutions and other IT solutions.
  • Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities :

  • Knowledge of and ability to provide polite, professional customer service to internal and external customers.
  • Extensive knowledge of creating, maintaining, and troubleshooting databases and relational database design.
  • Extensive knowledge of migration planning.
  • Knowledge of SQL.
  • Knowledge of and ability to draft PHP scripting language.
  • Knowledge of Business Office Software.
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Windows and Red Hat based Linux Operating systems.
  • Ability to read and understand technical manuals.
  • Ability to communicate well especially in technical matters with others.
  • Ability to test equipment for proper function and control.
  • Ability to prepare and maintain records and reports.
  • Ability to define problems, establish facts and draw conclusions.
  • Ability to develop and maintain effective working relationships with co-workers, employees at all levels of the organization and the general public.
  • Skill in troubleshooting network and computer equipment problems.
  • Ability to gather and interpret data regarding networked systems.
  • Ability to understand and carry out oral and written instructions.
  • Ability to stand, walk, sit, use hands to touch and handle objects on a routine basis, use various tools or controls; reach with hands and arms, talk and hear.
  • Ability to stoop, kneel crouch or crawl on a regular basis – occasionally for extended periods of time. (this is not common for the job)
  • Minimum Qualifications for Employment :

  • A Bachelor's degree in Computer Science with a minimum of two (2) years of experience; or related discipline or equivalent work experience and technical training.
  • Possession of a valid motor vehicle operator's license in the State of Ohio and to remain insurable under the city's vehicle insurance policy and have an acceptable driving record as deemed by the City of Wadsworth.
  • Preferred Additional Qualifications :

  • Experience in and knowledge of Linux servers.
  • Prior public sector experience.
  • Special Information :

    Employment is contingent upon the successful completion of a criminal background check, employment reference checks, a physical examination and a pre-employment drug screen. The final applicant will be required to submit to urinalysis prior to the appointment to test for illegal drug use. An applicant with a positive test will not be appointed to the position.
