Patient Transporter

This job is responsible for transporting patients and equipment between departments / locations, ensuring safe, timely, and accurate transport of patients, medical equipment, and patient-related items to their destinations enabling physicians, nurses, technicians, and therapists to perform their duties in an effective manner. Responsible for performing and problem solving through complex / dependent lifts / transfers using appropriate patient lifting equipment. Ensures positive patient and customer satisfaction, proper utilization of body mechanics, adherence to policies, procedures, and standards.

Assists with cleaning of equipment and maintenance of department; may exchange oxygen tanks and / or attach IV's to wheelchairs or gurneys as necessary. Escorts patient at the time of discharge from their room to personal transportation. Maintains a safe work and patient environment, adhering to the hospital's Safety, Risk Management, Regulatory Standards, and infection prevention. Provide client and patient relations. Follow hospital department protocols for checking in patients and verifying their identity and following specific precautions identified. Alert caregivers immediately to any signs of patient distress or equipment malfunction. Performs basic life support, gives assistance to medical staff during emergencies, and may respond to hospitals codes. Performs basic patient care activities, based on skill, ability, and limitations of scope of practice, as directed by management and / or nursing staff. Transports patients, medical equipment, and patient related items to and from nursing units and ancillary departments in a manner conducive to patient safety and comfort, including special needs. Returns all equipment after transport (ie. Wheelchair, stretcher). Informs floors when patient is being transported; provides feedback to healthcare staff on occurrences during period of transport. Responds to transport and lift requests, meeting time delivery goals. Ensures patient safety by following established procedures and using only approved rolling equipment. Maintains patient's chart during transport and ensures confidentiality of patient information at all times.

One year recent work-related work experience required and in a hospital setting preferred. Current American Heart Association BLS for Healthcare Provider Certification- upon hire required. Please be advised that this location requires quarterly American Heart Association (AHA) Resuscitation Quality Improvement (RQI) competency certification post-hire. This ongoing competency is required through resources internal to the facility; outside RQI competency resources are not acceptable for CommonSpirit Health compliance requirements.
