Job Title : Quality Control & Operations Admin

Pay : $19.00-$19.50 / hour (starting wage)

Status : Office / Greenhouse Worker; Full-time hourly non-exempt

Schedule : 7 : 00AM start time 5-6 days a week. All candidates must have Saturday & Sunday availability.

As a QC Operations Admin, you are responsible for inventory flow, quality, and counting plant material in the greenhouse for the operations and production departments. An ideal candidate would have great attention to detail and some background using computer software for inventory or tracking purposes. The ideal candidate for this position would understand the flow of product within the greenhouse and assist operation teams with identifying potential problems before they happen by providing the teams with timely and accurate information.

This position is one of two QC Operations Admins at the North facility that work within the inventory and controls functions, and this position reports directly to the Site Manager. The hours for this position may vary based on greenhouse needs. Schedules are determined by the Site Manager; during the peak season (January-May) it is typical for workers in the Operations Department to work 40-55+ hours per week. (This is reduced to 30-45 hours per week based on production for the remainder of the year).

Essential Functions / Duties :

Quality Control : checking the quality of products based on necessary spec, and report issues to the Site Manager.

  • Identify problem trays (i.e. short counts, disease, wash outs, etc.
  • Complete the Production Action Reports and report shortages or potential issues to the Site Manager and Inventory / Operation teams.
  • Complete a run loss report
  • Compile and enter data, reports, and germination counts & notes into the Picas system in a timely manner.
  • Grade :

  • Assess grades of trays based on the variety and record the percentage grade into the system. Enter comments and flag potential issues in the Picas system to be used by Production and Operation.
  • Reporting : Responsible for completion of all 5-Day and 10-Day Reporting

  • Print reports from internal computer program (Picas)
  • Complete 10-day plug counts within the greenhouse. Verify that numbers and locations are correct.
  • Record numbers, locations of shorts, and any necessary information into our inventory software (Picas) via iPad.
  • Locations : Assist Production and Inventory teams by tracking location of plant products by tray within the greenhouse and pair the information with a specific order / customer and ship week.

  • Record locations of products in real time on a spreadsheet.
  • Communicate with operation movement teams regarding changes made to locations throughout the day.
  • Inventory Verifications : Respond to inquiries from Inventory and the Young Plants Business departments to physically verify numbers within the greenhouse. (Typical verifications are regarding 10-Day counts, and work orders.) On the last week of each month verify map locations and count all products to ensure accuracy of the map information. Communicate schedule of inventory counts, any issues, and completion

    Soil samples : Collect samples from growers of dirt, plants, water, and chemicals and process them for research purposes and / or third-party companies.

    In addition to the above responsibilities, this position may be required to assist with various projects or other functions around the greenhouse as needed and directed by Operations Manager. This includes being cross-trained in the Inventory and Operations departments to assist with inventory / sow verifications, germination, weekly / monthly inventory, etc. Support other operations teams as needed (depending on greenhouse needs, this position will assist with jimmy tags and collation verification). This position also may be required to assist with receiving, shipping, and plant maintenance functions within the operation and maintenance teams based on greenhouse needs.

    Requirements :

    Basic Minimum Requirements

  • Must be 18 years of age and eligible to work in the United States
  • Must have a High School Diploma, GED Certification, or equivalent / relative experience and training in inventory and computing functions.
  • Must be able to work in all Greenhouse conditions including wet, humid, dusty, dirty, and extreme hot / cold temperatures.
  • Must be able to regularly / repeatedly lift and / or move up to 25 pounds, frequently push / pull racks on wheels of up to 50-75lbs, and occasionally lift / move benches or product of up to 50 pounds.
  • Must have specific vision abilities : close vision, distance vision, and color vision
  • Must be able to stand / walk for intervals of 3-4 hours throughout a 5-10+hour shift.
  • Must be able to sit, reach overhead, bend / climb, maintain balance, stoop, squat, kneel, crouch or crawl.
  • Must be able to work in all Greenhouse conditions including wet, humid, dusty, dirty, and extreme hot / cold temperatures.
  • Ability to read, analyzes, and interprets general business forms and professional documents in English. Candidates with conversational fluency in Spanish are highly preferred.
  • Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or scheduled forms.
  • Must be able to work as a part of a team and communicate in a timely and respectful manner when speaking to clients, other greenhouse teams, managers, and coworkers.
  • Must be fluent in basic algebra and geometry (i.e. addition, subtraction, multiplication, division, discounts, interest, commissions, proportions, percentages, area, circumference, volume)
  • Must have intermediate computer literacy with knowledge of Microsoft Office (including MS Excel and Outlook) and the ability to use software on Apple iOS tablet. Must have some skills or experience with inventory software, Picas or database software.
