Job description

Job Summary :

The LPN performs under the direct supervision of a Registered Nurse and is delegated an assignment by him / her to achieve quality patient care. The LPN shall assist the RN in the implementation of the nursing process by providing direct patient care as evidenced, but not limited to, patient care documentation, direct observation, and patient evaluations. The LPN is responsible and accountable to the Director of Nursing. Demonstrates the knowledge and skills necessary to provide care appropriate to the age of the patients served; also demonstrates knowledge of the principles of growth and development and possesses the ability to read data reflective of the patient's status and interprets the appropriate information needed to identify each patient's requirements relative to his / her age specific needs, and to provide the care needed. Perform other job duties as assigned.

Performance Expectations :

  • Performs and completes tasks that includes, but is not limited to turning and moving patients and equipment by utilizing safety measures for the patient and yourself.
  • Performs the ability to tolerate high and low temperatures to accommodate the comfort of patients.
  • Performs the ability to troubleshoot equipment / devices as needed for patient care when equipment function is impaired.
  • Consistently uses correct body mechanics to safely lift and position patients as necessary to not cause harm to self or the patient.
  • Consistently meets the needs, demands, request and requirements of patient care provided in the Plan of Care of the patients assigned to her / him.
  • Manages time during the shift to optimize and deliver quality patient care to the patients.
  • Documents accurately in the patient care record, findings and observations within the scope of practice and reports these findings to the RN Supervisor and / or Provider in a timely manner.
  • Consistently completes medication administration by the use of barcode scanning at 97-98 % of all meds given. Assures that Medication is given on time within the time frame allowed.
  • Ensures that an accurate patient report is given at shift change to the nurse / nurses who will be assuming care of the patient / patients that are currently assigned to him / her, during walking rounds. Promotion of continuity of care of all patients.
  • Interprets Physician orders correctly, asking for clarification if needed by the Physician or the RN, follows orders as given and carries orders out in a timely manner.
  • Patient Safety and quality of care is provided in a professional manner at all times.
  • Arrives on time for shift change and receives and accepts report on assigned patients per the Nursing Supervisor and / or the DON in a timely and professional manner.
  • Responds promptly to patient call lights.
  • Maintains confidentiality of patients.
  • Assist with monitoring of supplies in Walmart rooms and relays message to Materials Management.
  • Maintains a sterile field for the Provider without contamination during any procedures of the patients
  • Accurately collects, labels and delivers lab specimens in a timely manner and in appropriate container.
  • Reports to work as needed during Emergency Operations Events.
  • Attends all mandatory staff meetings and education.
  • Receives and makes known when assistance is needed from RN, to ensure appropriate and quality care is given at all times to patients.
  • Completes assignments in Healthstream on or before the due date.

Qualifications : Education / Skills

Graduate of a recognized non-online LPN program required.

Work Experience : Experience preferred but not required.

Certification / Licensure-DUE UPON HIRE

  • Licensed LPN able to practice within the State of MS
  • Additional Certification / Licensure - Obtained based on required timeframe below

  • Basic Life Support
  • Within 30 Days of Employment
